The presentation of the educational manual "History of Pedagogical Thought" by Anatoly Sahakyan, a former vice-rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) was held at ASPU on March 19.
The book is important as it presents the history of the formation of education and pedagogical thought, introduces influential pedagogical thinkers, their views and role in the field of pedagogy.
In the book, the author thoroughly presents the problems of upbringing in ancient times, Armenian schools and pedagogical thought in the Middle Ages and the period of the Renaissance, and then in the New and Modern Age.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan spoke about Anatoly Sahakyan's personality, the peculiarities of his mentality, and his social activity. "One of his fundamental traits that I can single out was his boundless kindness, which accompanied him throughout his career," the rector said. Then she hailed the initiative to donate Anatoly Sahakyan's books to the University's reading hall. She is convinced that it will contribute to the development of university students, the content, history and functions of pedagogy, and the modern educational sector.
Speaking about Anatoly Sahakyan's books Associate Professor Isabella Babayan praised them and said: “In 2005, the book “Pedagogy” was written at the right time and at the right place. It is a comprehensive manual dedicated to theoretical issues, which became a table book for learners. There are various books about the history of pedagogy, but "History of Pedagogical Thought" published in 2010 stands out from the pack as it also presents [Sahakyan's] contemporary science educators in a new way.”
She stressed that that Anatoly Sahakyan was the first person to present a book for Armenian teachers in Armenian.
Former Rector of ASPU Artush Ghukasyan said the initiative had unique content. At the same time, he emphasized that ASPU lecturers have always stood out for the books and textbooks they have written, understanding very well that ASPU is responsible for pedagogical thought and the University will find important solutions in all aspects. Anatoly Sahakyan’s colleagues shared memories of him, highly appreciating his hard work, dedication, and his contributions to the university.
Anatoly Sahakyan's eldest daughter, Narine Sahakyan, who heads the Chair of First Aid and Physiology, thanked the ASPU leadership and his father’s friends for their typical speeches and true description of Anatoly Sahakyan and for understanding his personality type.
“With his own example, my father taught us to be human, to live with dignity, to take responsibility for our own work and family, to love our parents and relatives, and to remain loyal to our friends. "He knew life from all angles, without exception, and in that context, he was a teacher for us. He was a good model in our family, he adored his parents, family was sacred for him, and I am grateful for all of that," Narine Sahakyan said.
