“A Good Teacher is the Foundation of this Country”

“The former Chair of Literature of the 100 -year-old University is closely linked to the literary world, and that link has been nurtured throughout decades by our honoured literary figures. For the first time it was here, at the Pedagogical University that they received their creative stimulus, literary perceptions, a guide to the bitter and sweet path of fame and torture”, mentioned Professor Suren Danielyan during the student conference headed “Outstanding Figures of the Pedagogical University: Writers and Literary Critics”. The conference was organised by the Head of the Chair of Armenian Modern and New Literature and its Teaching Methods of the ASPU Faculty of Philology Suren Danielyan.

Masters of prose Mkrtich Sargsyan, Hrant Matevosyan, poets Suren Muradyan, Razmik Davoyan, Aramayis Sahakyan, Hakob Movses and many others; the Professor noticed that their talent was unveiled at the University auditoriums and during national -political opinion confrontations.

Besides, the Head of the Chair Suren Danielyan was proud to mention that the mainstay lecturers of literature Arshaluys Babayan, Vachei Partizuni, Hektor Rshtuni, Sevak Arzumanyan, and others were also next to the writers.

These were forces reckoned with in the national literary movement of their time, and whose activities are fully continued by the relatively new-generation scientist-pedagogues, therewith becoming a new guideline for the development of the University.

Among the participants of the conference organised on the centennial anniversary of establishment of the ASPU there were the University graduate, poet, translator Hakob Movses, the academic staff, and the students.

“So long as we are being remembered, we remain alive”, observed the Head of the Scientific -Research Centre, Professor Kamo Vardanyan.

The latter is assured that it is due to such events that they “dig out” the great figures of the University, understand the past, and praise the present.

In addition, the Professor once again highlighted the importance of the conference, particularly stressing out the students’ initiatives, as they were passing on to the event a different quality and message, thereby giving the opportunity to see and interpret the great figures in a new way, whose contributions are invaluable.

In his turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ashot Galstyan noticed that during the recent years the Faculty was represented in a new image, where the scientific base was primary.

Furthermore, the Dean advised the students to equip with a lot of knowledge and methodology to be able to pass to the pupils of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora the Armenian language and speech.

Next, the winner of the first prize of the republican competition in the field of Armenology, student of the Faculty of Philology Tatev Tamrazyan greeted the participants of the conference and confessed that it was a great honour for her to be a student of the Pedagogical University.

The ideology and principles adopted by the University, as well as the education help to preserve the best traditions and at the same time to prepare competitive specialists.
The student conference headed “Outstanding Figures of the Pedagogical University: Writers and Literary Critics” comprised topics about the creative path of the honoured figures of the Faculty.

Within the scope of scientific interests of the students there were Vahan Teryan’s literary heritage reviewed by Vachei Partizuni, Souren Muradyan’s Children’s Poems, Hrant Matevosyan’s novel “The Bridge of Nana Princess”, the war theme in Mkrtich Sargsyan’s novel “Life in Fire”, Razmik Davoyan’s “The Massacre of Crosses”, etc.
“It is the duty of generations to remember and praise, as it is due to them that the national biography is built and would, in fact, be very meagre without them” the students concluded.

Next, Hakob Movses, who was also present at the event, confessed in his interview to the aspu.am that every time he was stepping into the educational institution from which he graduated around 50 years ago with a great excitement. The graduate of the Pedagogical University also noticed that the heart of pedagogy continued beating here, and that the spirit, excitement and students’ interests had also been preserved.

In addition, Hakob Movses was assured that there was no other more important, responsible and state-building profession in the RA than that of a pedagogue.

“Pedagogy is the foundation of the state; and I hope we will be wise enough to understand the unique and privileged status of this University”.

Summing up, Hakob Movses advises the future pedagogues to study well, as a good pedagogue is the foundation of this country.
