Academic Council holds meeting

The Academic Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) held a meeting on November 29. Samvel Asatryan, Head of the Educational Process Management and Reforms Department at ASPU, presented the stages and results of the University’s accreditation process in 2024. He said that following the rector’s order, working groups were set up and a timeline for institutional self-evaluation of the accreditation process was drawn up. The evaluation was carried out according to ten accreditation criteria, and the University complied with the requirements defined by nine criteria.

Samvel Asatryan also presented the observations and recommendations of the expert group, in particular, the University maintains credibility in awarding qualifications and higher degree classifications, as well as stability and development of management and quality education. Also, the University’s internationalization, research and creative activities show development trends, and the measures and steps offered in the expert group’s report to eliminate the shortcomings are realistic and do not contain risks.

He added that after the publication of ASPU’s institutional accreditation decision, an action plan with a respective time schedule were submitted to the National Centre for Professional Education Quality Assurance (ANQA) for the elimination of deficiencies and shortcomings specified in the expert report. “Based on other recommendations of the expert panel report for the institutional accreditation of ASPU, a deficiency elimination plan/improvement plan has been developed to address the key issues specified in the ten accreditation criteria,” Samvel Asatryan said.

He also spoke about the need to conduct an internal audit of professional educational programs by a decision of the ASPU Institutional Capacity Accreditation Committee, and presented details on organizing the process.

In her speech, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan reminded that by a decision of the ANQA Accreditation Committee, ASPU has been granted institutional accreditation for a period of six years. She considered the process to be unprecedented and positive for the University and voiced hope that the internal audit will also be conducted in due order.

Among other issues, the Academic Council also discussed internationalization of the University and international cooperation programs.

Marianna Harutyunyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for HR Management and International Cooperation, emphasized that the University has had significant achievements and developments in international relations, and the submitted report on the work done is unique.

The University official presented in detail the statistics on participation of ASPU’s lecturers and students in Erasmus+ mobility projects and other programs in 2024, as well as the programs that ended and started in 2024.

Speaking about the new projects and initiatives, Marianna Harutyunyan said although they have different objectives, they are all aimed at ensuring the University’s and improving its needs. In that context, she particularly emphasized the opening of a unique center for excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and assured everyone that soon practical and professional trainings will be held within the framework of the program which is aimed at capacity building current and future teachers.

Marianna Harutyunyan emphasized the importance of acquiring new equipment and providing the University with technical equipment through various programs. She also dwelt on the programs and training courses funded in 2024 and in this context, underscored the importance of the programs implemented jointly by the "Artas" Foundation and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.

Marianna Harutyunyan then presented the list of international universities ASPU has started collaboration with in 2024 and plans to implement various programs in the future.

The Academic Council also conferred title of Associate professor on Candidate of Biological Sciences Marine Dallakyan and title of Professor on Amatuni Virabyan, Acting Professor at the Chair of Chair of Museology, Library Studies and Bibliography.

The Academic Council approved the submitted six PhD thesis topics, the proposed changes to three topics and supervisors, and the decision of the Council of the Faculty of History and Social Science regarding the awarding of the "Movses Khorenatsi" nominal scholarship.

The Academic Council also recommended the submitted educational and methodological manuals for publication.

According to tradition, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated everyone who are celebrating their birthday this month and gave them certificates of Associate Professor.
