September 27 marks the first anniversary of the beginning of the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in fall 2020. A year ago, on this day, the first startling sounds of explosion were heard in Stepanakert. In the wee hours of September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces launched large-scale hostilities along the entire length of the Line of Contact with Artsakh and some sections of the Line of Contact with Armenia.
Among the Armenia educational institutions, the Pedagogical University that has a hundred-year history has always stood out for the fact that it is increasingly dominated by female students. However, in 2020 there were 36 ASPU male students among the heroes killed in defense of the homeland. Let's remember our martyrs who have laid down their lives for our country: Suren Adamyan, Aren Avanesyan, Artyom Avetisyan, Artak Barseghyan, Hovhannes Beybutyan, Smbat Gabrielyan, Aram Galstyan, Shahen Galstyan, Norik Gasparyan, Ruben Gasparyan, Samvel Gasparyan, Andranik Grigoryan, Armen Grigoryan, Levon Yeghiazaryan, Ara Khachatryan, Aram Khachatryan, Moris Khumaryan, Gevorg Karapetyan, Avetik Karchikyan, Ajdahak Kirakosyan, Armen Harutyunyan, Artashes Hakobyan, Smbat Mazmanyan, Azat Majaryan, Alen Margaryan, Roman Margaryan, Gevorg Melkonyan, Sipan Melkonyan, Tigran Mikoyan, Hayk Nalbandyan, Harut Nikoyan, Poghos Sargsyan, Varuzhan Sargsyan, Armen Stepanyan, Narek Varosyan and Azat Sahakyan.
Let’s note that a khachkar-monument perpetuating the memory of the students killed in the 2020 Artsakh War has been erected in the yard of the Pedagogical University. The khachkar dating back to the 1601 was brought from Tsitsernavank, Artsakh.
