Armenian delegates introduced to characteristics of Finnish and Estonian educational systems

As part of the Armenian delegation, Vice-Rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) for HR Management and International Cooperation Marianna Harutyunyan participated in the educational event organized by the Ministries of Education and Culture of Finland and Estonia.

The event was held on the sidelines of the ‘Teaching Excellence - Empowering Educators’ Eastern Partnership Program of the European Training Foundation.

Among other members of the delegation led by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia Araksia Svajyan were Head of the Department for General Education Tamara Sargsyan and Head of the Department for Preliminary (Craftsmanship) and Vocational Education and Training Armenuhi Poghosyan and Acting Director of the National Center for Education Development and Innovations (NCEDI) Artashes Torosyan.

The peculiarities of the Finnish and Estonian educational systems and the mechanisms for their effectiveness were explored and considered during the visit. Within the scope of the Program, the delegation paid visits to the Ministries of Education and Culture of Finland and Estonia, the University of Helsinki and Tallinn University, the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre, the Teachers’ Trade Union and a number of other organizations.

The structures of the Finnish and Estonian educational systems, as well as issues related to teachers’ continuing education, quality control, protection of teachers’ rights and other issues were discussed.

The colleagues of the European Training Foundation were told about the priorities for future cooperation with Armenia in the areas of development of teacher education, improvement of the works for introduction of the state criterion for general education and introduction of the mentorship system in schools.

The delegations of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Ukraine were also participating in the Program.
