SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES, AWARDS
Prof. A. Melkonian’s main area of scientific interest and research is related to the History of Western Armenia, Armenian Question, Armenian Genocide, History of Javakhk, Armenian-Georgian relations, Problems of historic demography of Armenia.
Prof. A. Melkonian is the author of 16 books and 400 articles related to the History of Armenia and Armenian people. Most distinguished among them are the book of “History of Armenia” (1998), “History of Armenian from Ancient Times till today” (in Russian, co-author 1999), as well as handbooks on History of Armenia for schools and students of higher educational institutions.
He supervised 8 PhD dissertations, which were confined by the subjects of historic demography and Genocide. Prof. A. Melkonian edited number of scientific publications.
His “Erzurum” monograph published in 1994 and more than 30 articles touching upon the subject of districts and towns of Western Armenia, were awarded main prize of the “Hayastan All Armenian Fund”, while the book "Javakhk in the 19th and the first quarter of the 20th centuries" (2003, Yerevan) received the grant of the “Gurgen Melikian to the families of Qashatakh” Fund and Tekeyan Cultural Center’s “Haykashen Uzunian” prize.
Scientific works of Prof.A.Melkonian were published in Armenia, Russia, USA, UK, France, Georgia, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Argentina, Hungary in Armenian, Russian, French, Georgian, Persian, Spanish, Turkish and Hungarian languages.
He was awarded medals of Vachagan Barepasht (2018), Argishti the I (2015), Andranik Ozanian (2013), Garegin Njdeh (2011), Fritjoph Nansen (2011), M. Khorenatsi of the Republic of Armenia (2003).
