ASPU Academic Board holds a meeting

According to tradition, ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan congratulated all those born in February. Then he gave two students the donation by Diaspora Armenians Hakob and Shamir Avagian.

In memory of Marie Uzunyan, they gave two of the ASPU students some money to pay the tuition fees. $500 was given to Ashkhen Hovsepyan, a second-year student of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, and to Levon Safaryan, a first-year student of the Faculty of Culture.

Implementation of the 2018-2019 SP assessed as satisfactory

Mkrtich Avagyan, Head of the Education Reforms and Quality Department at ASPU, presented the steps and activities implemented in the previous year under the Strategic Plan for 2016-2020.

Improvement of a number of programmes, changes in some education programmes, 97% involvement of students and lecturers in the e-learning platform, trainings, etc. Mkrtich Avagyan spoke about scientific activities as well, starting from publications to organization of conferences and participation in them. Then he presented the seven key directions of the Strategic Plan and the results.

“We are completing this phase of the SP. From now on we should start working on Strategic Plan for 2021-2025,” he said presenting in detail the work to be done, analyses, creation of working groups and committees, etc.

The Academic Board assessed the implementation of the 2018-2019 Action Plan as satisfactory and approved the schedule and roadmap of the new programme.

New international programmes are foreseen for 2020

Ara Yeremyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Personnel and International Cooperation, presented international programmes implemented in 2019 and the academic mobility within their framework.

He then referred to the ERASMUS+ programmes coordinated by the Pedagogical University and presented their goals.

ACCESS (Ensuring smooth transition of schoolchildren with special education needs into high schools, vocational schools and higher education", ARInet, QUTE, PROVE. ASPU will cooperate within these projects under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education programme.

Regarding the expansion of the geography of cooperation in 2020, the vice-rector said applications for Erasmus+ Mobility Programme have been submitted to the universities of Valladolid, Valencia, Seville, Alicante in Span, universities of Pardubice and South Bohemia in the Czech Republic, Vilnius University in Lithuania, universities of Macerata and Trieste in Italy, Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Hungary, University of Aveiro in Portugal and Transylvania University of Brasov in Romania.

The Academic Board members expressed hope that the number of students and lecturers involved in international programmes will increase year by year.

Further on, Inessa Sirekanyan was granted the title of Associate Professor by secret ballot.

Current Issues

 Srbuhi Gevorgyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Educational and Scientific Affairs presented for the Academic Board’s approval the topics for dissertations and books recommended for publication.

In his turn, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Dean of the Faculty of History and Law suggested that the Faculty be renamed Faculty of History and Social Studies.
