ASPU graduates teach their students to preserve Armenian culture and heritage through dance

On July 23, Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) Srbuhi Gevorgyan hosted Arman Vardanyan, Founder of the Hayastan Cultural Center in Los Angeles, USA, and Tigran and Ovsanna Vardanyan, Artistic Directors of Hayastan Dance Ensemble.

As Karen Gevorgyan, Head of the Chair of Dance Education and its Teaching Method said during the meeting, father and son Vardanyans, both graduates of ASPU, have been engaged in the important mission of raising, educating and nurturing Armenians in the USA for decades.

Mr. Gevorgyan said that it is very important that the dance devotees stay in touch with the University and the Chair through concerts, visits, as well as by providing theoretical and practical support.

Hayastan Dance Ensemble has arrived in Armenia within the framework of celebrations dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the ensemble. Karen Gevorgyan says the brilliant concert performed at the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan with a crowded hall and presence of famous cultural figures shows yet another time that wherever Armenians live, they create.

"The figures who have educated hundreds of children under their roof have become the guarantors of our cultural permanence outside the country [Armenia]. Their soul is enshrined in Armenian culture, they are able to keep the Armenian identity, give our children Armenian education in a foreign land and keep the national spirit," Mr. Gevorgyan said.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan highly appreciated the path the guests have passed and said that considering the trends in globalization their activity aimed at preserving Armenian identity is particularly important.
She assured the guests that ASPU is always ready to cooperate [with the Center] and jointly solve the existing problems, to be a platform for developing professional activities, developing research potential, and effective interaction.

Professor Gevorgyan also hailed Karen Gevorgyan’s contributions in the field of dance. She is sure that joint initiatives and, events, master classes, familiarity with the specifics of each other's activity and work will ensure effective dialogue between Armenia and the Diaspora.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan handed over certificates of appreciation to Tigran and Ovsanna Vardanyan for their efforts to preserve, teach and popularize Armenian folk dances in Los Angeles.

Arman and Tigran Vardanyan thanked their Alma Mater for the support, for appreciating their work and assured the ASPU representatives that they will continue their activity for the benefit of the University and Armenia.
