Director of the History Museum of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) Alvard Grigoryan participated in the “Intermuzei Expo” (Intermuseum Expo) international forum online. The forum was held in Moscow.
During the sitting under the title “Classroom behind glass: How museums become a part of the school curriculum”, Alvard Grigoryan presented the activities of the ASPU History Museum.
During a discussion on “Museum as a Part of Formal Education”, Grigoryan touched upon introducing future teachers to the basics of museum pedagogy and the opportunities to organize museum education programs for pupils during their internships. The active cooperation with all the Faculties of the University, the constant ties with alumni and the experience in organizing courses/drills and publishing educational manuals devoted to the topic were also presented.
During the sitting held for the purpose of exchange of experience, the speaker underscored the importance of having museums serve as a platform for the educational and personal development of pupils. “The role of museums in the education system remains underappreciated; classic field trips can’t impress today’s learners and are rarely helpful. It is necessary to revisit the conventional approach and propose new formats that will attract the attention of the young generation,” the Museum’s Director remarked.
The forum’s organizers positively assessed the experience of the ASPU History Museum in terms of integrating museums in the educational chain (school-university-profession). Upon the proposal of the colleagues, Alvard Grigoryan’s experience will also be presented in the form of an article.
