On September 6, Armenian State Pedagogical University hosted Marlena Puchowska, Founding Director of AFALOG Aphasia and Training Center in Bydgoszcz, Poland, who is in Armenia on a working visit. She is also a professor at A. Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 and Head of Department of Neurology research education at WSB School of Banking.
During the meeting with students and lecturers of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education, the speaker focused on aphasia, the work of speech pathologists and cooperation of the multidisciplinary team in Poland. The Polish specialist also spoke about the practical approaches for persons with aphasia, and use of modern technologies and methods.
Later on, Marlena Puchowska presented data about frequency and severity of aphasia in Poland and effectiveness of treatments for persons suffering aphasia, emphasizing the work of speech therapists with patients and their family members.
Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Siranush Karapetyan stressed the importance of international cooperation and exchange of expertise in this context. Referring to aphasia as a crucial issue in speech therapy, she especially emphasized students’ participation in international discussions of the same format. The speeches were followed by a Q&A session. The Polish partner expressed readiness to continue cooperation in the future.
