Earlier this week, a student scientific session entitled "Nature as a study topic for a young naturalist" was held on the initiative of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography. The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of ASPU.
ASPU Rector, Professor Srbuhi Gevorgyan hailed the student initiative as a joint activity between lecturers and students and an opportunity enabling to get acquainted with the scientific and research methodology. She says the structure she heads places importance on the scientific և research component; its priority presupposes a certain quality of professional efficiency.
Srbuhi Gevorgyan says it is no accident that the strategic plan of the University gives key role and importance to the model of a research teacher; that will be one of the important factors in the development of professional activity.
The ASPU rector is convinced that the research teacher, with his environment and professional skills, methodology can strengthen ties between schools and universities, and in some cases, cooperation between schools, society and universities, thereby helping raise important issues in the field of higher pedagogical education. "Legislative changes in the field of education are also a kind of instruction in terms of introducing and ratifying them in our country," Srbuhi Gevorgyan added.
The students participating in the student scientific session presented their findings on a number of topics.
The young naturalists spoke about the formation of a national ideology by developing a non-formal educational model within geography, depending on the changes in species composition of the fish world of the Vorotan River, the assessment of risk factors for childhood cancer, the use of game technologies in school biology.
The students' research also included the ecological problems of the Akhuryan water basin, geographic and environmental analysis of Mrgavan community of Ararat region, educational role of the geographic and environmental analysis of Voskevan community of Tavush region, etc.
"Literary sources are important in research, however presentation of the results of one's own research is more appreciated in science," Professor Ruzanna Sadoyan, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography, said when summing up the results of the student scientific session.
Samvel Pipoyan, Head of the Chair of Biology, Chemistry and its Teaching Methods, says experimental work/research is especially important in the field of natural sciences.
The professor adds that if the student is not familiar with the research object, has not done any experimental work, he will hardly be able to carry out serious scientific activity in the future.
Samvel Pipoyan says during the scientific session there were reports based only on literary sources, but there were also many works based on the results of serious research and experimental work.
The speeches were followed by an interesting discussion and a Q&A session.
