On January 12, Rector of Armenian State Pedagogical University Ruben Mirzakhanyan met with principals of schools [where ASPU students do internship] to discuss future plans and listen to their suggestions.
Mr. Mirzakhanyan assured the guests that the University pays great attention to internships, which has its direct impact on the educational process.
The school principals spoke about the strengths and weaknesses of internships, highly appreciating the work and role of supervisors and the readiness of the students which, they said, is becoming more evident with each passing year.
Ashot Alikhanyan, Head of Anania Shirakatsy Lyceum, proposed to open a Faculty of Primary Education at the educational complex he heads, saying it would be a true laboratory and would be mutually beneficial for the sides.
The guests stressed the importance of cooperation between schools and higher educational institutions saying that frequent visits and career orientation courses help reinforce the relationship between pupils and the given university.
The school principals also suggested adding teaching practice classes and developing new tools for more objective assessment of internship results. "Sometimes graduates with brilliant theoretical knowledge get into a classroom and fail because of the lack of practice."
The Rector thanked the school principals for cooperation and called on them to support each other, cooperate in different directions and not to be satisfied with the results they have today.
