ASPU Report 2019 Assessed as Satisfactory

The ASPU Board of Trustees held a year-end session on December 27.

During the meeting, the Board members watched a video about the University policies, academic innovations and achievements in the current academic year. This was followed by a report of ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan. The latter presented the work carried out in 2019, the number of students studying at ASPU and the financial condition of the University. The Board of Trustees was also introduced to the estimates of institution’s revenue and expenditure for 2019, cash flows and the 2020 budget estimates.

“Improvement of the quality of education should be one of our priority areas. It is important that we adopt the following principle: admission should be easy, learning - painstaking, and graduation certificate must meet the highest requirements,” Mr. Mirzakhanyan said. The ASPU rector added that the Academic Council regularly discusses the work to be done in that direction.

Samvel Karabekyan, one of the members of the Board, asked about the measures to be taken to address the problems encountered during the accreditation process. The rector said they partially agree with the observations and have already outlined steps to eliminate the problems.

Chairman of the Board David Gyurjinyan expressed his concerns over the level of students' preparedness during the final exams at the Faculty of Philology. He once again suggested organizing meetings with students and lecturers. The offer was accepted by the meeting participants.
When talking about the gaps in 2019, Mr. Mirzakhanyan stressed that future teachers don’t think independently, and graduates don’t make analyses and avoid free discussions.

Ruben Mirzakhanyan congratulated everyone on the holidays and wished that 2020 be a year of success, achievements and happiness.
The Board assessed the ASPU activity in 2019 as satisfactory and unanimously approved the estimates of revenue and expenditure for 2020.

David Gyurjinyan once again expressed his readiness to addressing the existing issues with joint efforts. He congratulated everyone on the holidays and noted that the 2019 report shows that the Pedagogical University is doing its best to strengthen its place in the higher education system and the international education platform.
