From September 24 to December 15, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held the "Museums and Community Development 2018" course.

Davit Poghosyan, Candidate of Pedagogical Science, Associate Professor at the ASPU Chair of Museum Studies, Library Studies and Bibliography, represented Armenia during the event.

With the help of lectures, discussions, visits, reports, practical exercises and meetings, representatives from Armenia, Ecuador, Fiji, Jamaica, Sudan, Solomon Islands, Turkey, Papua New Guinea, Zambia and Jordan were introduced to the rich Japanese experience in the preservation of museums, as well as natural, historical and cultural heritage. The course gave them a chance to explore the country’s rich experience and learn about different topics related to various spheres of museology.

The course was organized by lecturers, scientists and specialists working in museums, and in different research, educational, community centers of Japanese cities. The participants had an opportunity to communicate with the locals, to get acquainted with the rich culture, traditions and unique thinking of the Japanese people.

Davit Poghosyan made four reports dwelling on museums and historical and cultural heritage of Armenia. He also prepared research materials for the newsletter which is published at the end of the course. Talking to www.aspu.am, he said the course enabled the participants to get familiarized with the localization of international experience by Japan. “It will help us while preparing a new generation of museum specialists. With that end in view, the material and information acquired during the course will be introduced in the museum education course organized by the Chair of Museum Studies, Library Studies and Bibliography,” Mr. Poghosyan said.
