ASPU Scientific Council holds yearend meeting

The ASPU Scientific Council held a yearend session which was accompanied by an awards ceremony on the occasion of the University’s 100th anniversary.

The President of the Scientific Council, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded the "Khachatur Abovyan" medal - the highest award of the University, to Professors Mnatsakan Manukyan, Aida Topuzyan, Varuzhan Hovhannisyan, and posthumously to Samvel Khudoyan, for their outstanding contributions to science and pedagogy.

By a decision of the Scientific Council, Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan also received the highest award of the University for her contributions to the higher education system, development of science, training of scientific and pedagogical personnel and ensuring the quality of professional education. "For decades, you have created your career and biography at the Pedagogical University, at the same time creating values in the fields of psychological science, scientific research and pedagogy. You have your unique place and role as a psychologist, scientist and educator, education and science manager,” ASPU Scientific Secretary, Vice-Rector Mariam Ispiryan said when handing over the medal.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan said the medal was unexpected and honourable, adding that she has a number of awards, but the "Khachatur Abovyan" medal is the only and first award of ASPU she has received.
During the meeting, a number of ASPU professors and representatives of the ASPU partner educational structures were awarded the ASPU Centennial commemorative medals and “Pedagogical University” medals for their significant contributions to the development of university education, training of young professionals, and conscientious and effective performance of their professional duties.
In her speech, Srbuhi Gevorgyan emphasized that it is thanks to the devotees that the University has its professional reputation and unique place in the higher ducation system: "Thanks to your dedicated work and activities the reputation of the University rises year by year,” she stressed.

Later on, she made a report on the first issue of the meeting agenda – the works done at ASPU in 2022 and the budget for 2023.

The ASPU rector presented the 2022 financial report, cash inflows and outflows, distributions, revenues and expenditures, and the 2023 budget estimates.

The rector considered the financial flows as positive, but expressed concerns over the decrease in the number of university applicants in Armenia, including in ASPU. At the same time, she assured everyone that they are trying to use the financial resources efficiently to improve education quality and ensure stability of the University.

The members of the Scientific Council later watched a video about the University’s policy in 2022, which was a jubilee year for the educational institution, innovations and achievements in the field of science and education.

Among important achievements the ASPU rector signled out approval of the University’s strategic plan 2022-2025, complete revision of professional educational programmes and alignment of educational outcomes with the RA education development strategy until 2030.

Kamo Vardanyan, Head of the ASPU Scientific-Research Centre, spoke about the programmes financed by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.

Professor Vardanyan presented the list of programmes funded by the Science Committee of the RA MօESCS in 2022 and the number of programmes by year. He also referred to the activity of the ASPU labs and the large-scale work done until now.

The Scientific Council assessed maintenance of basic funding infrastructure for scientific and scientific-technical activities and implementation of development programmes as satisfactory. The Scientific Council decided to increase the efficiency of scientific research, by continuing to participate in new project tenders to be announced by the Science Committee of the RA MօESCS.
The Scientific Council also gave the green light to the programme "Study of Psychophysiological Characteristics of Distance Learning amid the COVID-19 Pandemic".

The head of the ASPU Scientific-Research Centre emphasized that they should have maximum enrollment in scientific programmes in order to have the best results.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan wished that the scientific and educational processes continue at the University: it is also necessary in terms of expanding the boundaries of recognition of the University’s scientific potential.

According to tradition, Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all those who are celebrating their birthdays in December, handed over Associate Professor certificates and wished everyone peace in the coming year stressing that the University's achievements are determined by it [peace].
