A few days ago, within the framework of the “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) project, a photo contest award ceremony was organised by the joint efforts of the RA Ministry of Environment and German Corporation for International Cooperation, dedicated to the World Water Day.
There were 40 participants in the contest; the photos varied thematically and the authors were both already experienced photographers and amateurs. The latter shared with their memories of the Sevan, referred to the issues of the Lake and their ideas of possible solutions thereof; besides, archive photos taken with a tape camera were also displayed.
There were 8 winners in the following nominations: “My best memory of the Sevan”, “What issues Sevan is facing today”, “How to preserve the Sevan” and “Professional Photo”
The ASPU student of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geography Lilit Sargsyan also participated in the contest. She won the first honorary prize in the nomination “My best memory of the Sevan”.
“The birds swimming in waves of the Sevan and those flying in the sky were just usual small white birds. But everything changed when I visited one of the shores of the Lake with my camera and was able to catch the moment which I couldn’t have even dreamt of”, Lilit Sargsyan mentioned in her interview to the aspu.am.
To conclude, the Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan thanked the participants of the contest for their interest and mentioned, “Our citizens’ memories of Lake Sevan, as well as the contest raising the current issues of the Lake reaffirmed that the significance of the Sevan has not only not diminished, but has in fact increased both for Armenia and for the region”.
