The fourth conference of the ASPU Trade Union was held today.
Hasmik Sargsyan presented the Trade Union’s report for 2012-2017 and the work done during the period. She assured everyone that guided by the principles of solidarity, democracy and the rule of law, the Trade Union focuses on the protection of labour and social interests of its members.
The meeting focused on issues related to organization of cultural events, entertainment, and recreation of workers and students, workers’ rights and discipline in the workplace, which were discussed in the 45 meetings during the reporting period. It is due to mention that with the funds provided by the Trade Union, ASPU staff members and their families can spend their holidays at the University’s training base in Aghavnadzor, with up to 30-50 percent discount.
Tigran Tangamyan, Chairman of the Audit Committee of the ASPU Trade Union, presented the report of the Committee. Afterwards, the participants elected President of the Trade Union.
The only candidate for the position, incumbent president Hasmik Sargsyan, was re-elected to the position after scoring 37 votes.
During the meeting, the participants also approved the composition of the Trade Union, Trade Union Bureaus and Audit Committee.
On behalf of the structure, Svetlana Marutyuan and Boris Khoderyan, both members of the ASPU Trade Union, highly appreciated the work done and wished the newly elected president productive work.
Garnik Vagharshakyan, President of the Branch Republican Union of Trade Union Organizations of Armenian HEIs, congratulated Hasmik Sargsyan on re-election and noted that the ASPU Trade Union has its unique place and role among the 700 trade unions in the country.
He added that there are numerous unresolved problems in the university system concerning the employer-employee relationship. The Pedagogical University has a unique role in that system, which is reflected through tangible results and the work done by the University.
Garnik Vagharshakyan handed over a diploma of the Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) to Hasmik Sargsyan for her contribution to the trade-union movement, strengthening solidarity and increasing the role of trade unions in society, as well as on the occasion of the 25the anniversary of the GCTU.
Hasmik Sargsyan thanked the members of the Trade Union for the confidence [in her] and expressed hope that they would have more achievements and success if they continued to work together.
