On December 19, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded the “Khachatur Abovyan" medal – the highest award of ASPU, to Professor of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences Edik Gevorgyan for his outstanding contributions to science and pedagogy.
By a decision of the ASPU Scientific Council, Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded the “Pedagogical University” medal to Professors Aram Kosyan, Avetis Harutyunyan, Levon Shirinyan, Khachatur Stepanyan and Associate Professor Levon Simonyan for their outstanding contributions to the training of young professionals and development of higher education.
During the awards ceremony, the ASPU rector noted that the Faculty of History and Social Sciences is one of the active and key subdivisions of the University which, since the very first day of the University’s establishment, has worked for the benefit of the education sector with its professional discussions and rich scientific and methodical literature, at the same time having its opinion on issues of public concern.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Pedagogical University, Professors Ashot Piliposyan, Samvel Poghosyan and Associate Professor Hayk Grigoryan were awarded the ASPU Centennial commemorative medal for their impeccable work.
Professor Gevorgyan says the awards ceremony is a kind of intersection of generations: the presentees are devotees of the field, for whom teacher's mission is an unchanging value.
The rector emphasized the role ofthe history teachers in schools from the point of view of social science, civic values and preservation of Armenian identity. “There are a number of problems in the education system, whereas the future of each and every nation depends on investments in the education system. In that important system, the approach of your Faculty is also important for developing a new vision and methodology of higher education pedagogy,” she said.
Dean Edgar Hovhannisyan says the Faculty he heads is the same age as the University. He is proud that part of the achievements the University has had during the one hundred years of its history is also thanks to the Faculty.
He stresses that the Faculty of History and Social Studies is unique. It is also one of the centres of Armenian studies in the country where people not only study history and socio-political relations, but also create their own history. "For decades, distinguished representatives of the field have taught at the Faculty, who have had an important role not only in science and education, but also in the social and political life of the country. Even today, the Faculty has a huge potential and is ready to bring its important contribution to the prosperity and development of the University in the centuries to come," Mr. Hovhannisyan said and added that the achievements of the recent years in international relations and in the field of Armenian studies, are, without exaggeration, unprecedented.
The dean of the Faculty thinks the Faculty's development is determined by the harmonious interactions of three generations - long-time educators, their colleagues, and students.
Edgar Hovhannisyan assured everyone that they will continue to work for the sake of the Homeland, the state and the people, with the intention of keeping the national values, consciousness and vision and passing them onto the new generation.
A group of lecturers of the aculty were awarded certificates of appreciation and honour for conscientious and effective performance of their professional duties.
