On October 5, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Tomáš Machula, Rector of the University of South Bohemia, and Radka Závodská, Vice-Rector of the same university. The guests were accompanied by Ruben Mirzakhanyan, Rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan.
During the meeting in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Ruben Mirzakhanyan congratulated the Catholicos of All Armenians on the 20th anniversary of the enthronement. Then he introduced the guests and spoke about the effective cooperation between ASPU and the University of South Bohemia.
His Holiness Karekin II gave his blessings to the guests and expressed joy at the effective cooperation between the two universities in question which, he said, will help increase the educational level of students in both countries.
The Catholicos of All Armenians noted with pleasure that the monks of St. Echmiadzin continue their education at the best universities [in different countries] and spiritual institutions of sister churches which significantly raises their educational level and attainment and provides opportunities to deepen intercultural ties.
In his turn, Rector Tomáš Machula stressed the role of culture and the church in educating young people and voiced hope that the visit would serve as a basis for establishing fruitful cooperation between the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the University of South Bohemia.
During the meeting, His Holiness Karekin II also touched upon the friendly relations between the two countries as well as the spiritual life of the Armenian community in the Czech Republic and expressing his gratitude to the authorities of the country for their caring attitude towards the Armenian community, the Press Service of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin reports.
