Every year students completing online and distance courses in Dance Pedagogy give a concert examination just before graduation.
Due to the coronavirus-related situation in the country, this year the concert was replaced by an online exam which came to prove yet another time that in culture nothing is impossible.
This year, 92 students graduated from the Department of Dance Pedagogy; 46 completed an online course, 35 – a distance course and 11 – a Master's degree course. Even in the current situation, future dance teachers were able to create and find interesting solutions demonstrating their theoretical and practical knowledge gained during the years of study.
The students’ theses were mainly about the current issues in dance. Many presented videos and episodes to the examination commission. Some of the students even presented [in their works] dance performances – from their staging to the number of dancers, posture and alignment, description of dance movements, etc.
Karen Gevorgyan, Head of the Chair of Dance pedagogy, noted with regret that they had been ready for the concert exam since January. The concert was dedicated to the 90th birthday of Armenian actor Mher Mkrtchyan. Every student had their key roles in the dance performance which was based on the film “The Big Win” and was supposed to be added to the series of yearend dance performances organized by the Chair,” he said.
With regard to the format and results of online exams, Mr. Gevorgyan stressed that many students excelled at their studies: it is not the result of online assessment, rather it is the result of hard work during the whole process of learning. It should be noted that the attestation commission was chaired by dance theorist Naira Kilichyan, Candidate of Art History, who also hailed the works submitted to the commission.
