Devotees in education field receive awards

By a decision of the ASPU Scientific Council, a number of professors of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education have received awards and diplomas. The awards were handed over by ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of ASPU, Zabella Zohrabyan and Kim Sarukhanyan, Associate Professors at the Chair of Special Pedagogy and Psychology, and Gohar Hovyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Logopedics and Rehabilitation Therapy, were awarded with the “Pedagogical University" medals for their significant contributions to the training of young professionals and development of higher education.

Professors Spartak Palikyan, Siranush Karapetyan, Robert Azaryan and Associate Professor Zhanna Pailozyan were awarded with the ASPU Centennial Commemorative Medal for their significant contributions in the field of science and pedagogy.

A group of professors of the same Faculty received certificates of appreciation and honour.

Professor Gevorgyan congratulated everyone on the occasion of the University's 100th anniversary, noting that the 100th anniversary is a good occasion and opportunity to once again value and appreciate the work of the devotees of the field.

The ASPU rector stressed that the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education is one of the pillars of the University: ‘professionals with great professional potential, pedagogical abilities and best human qualities teach here, who uphold the honour of the University both in the country and beyond its borders.’

Srbuhi Gevorgyan notes that the policy of universal inclusion will succeed in Armenia if society is included in the process. In this context, the activity, interaction and influence of the Faculty is of great importance. "Today, the profession is widely represented both in educational and clinical fields. With your practical activity and dedicated work, you bring quality changes in life, give smiles to thousands of families. It is high time you shared your experience with colleagues. Each and every student of ASPU should see that apart from educational and professional mission, you also carry out another difficult mission – a human mission. The field is difficult not only in terms of realizing the goals and activity, but also because of inadequate perceptions of the society,” the rector said adding that more professors will be awarded in the future.

Srbuhi Gevorgyan hailed the role and efforts of Siranush Karapetyan, Dean of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education, in the development of the Faculty and thanked her for her dedication, which deserves respect and special attitude.

Siranush Karapetyan, in turn, said that the University's 100th anniversary has been a turning point for the Faculty and its activity and added that they carry out an important function. "The attendees are welcome guests in each and every family as pedagogues, special education teachers, specialists whose role is important in the establishment of the field thanks to their participatory component, no matter how small it is."

Marianna Harutyunyan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Human Resources and International Cooperation, who also teaches in this Faculty, wished that [on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of ASPU] each of the attendees set a benchmark, thereby fixing important professional success.

Leading experts in the field, who have joined the Faculty since its establishment, also expressed gratitude for appreciating their work.

Professor Spartak Palikyan has worked at the Pedagogical Institute for half a century. He says his long-term activity at the University is a great honour for him. He wished the profession to be separated one day and a faculty be established. The happy and long-awaited day came at last. Today, thanks to its high-quality specialists, the Faculty is recognized not only in post-Soviet countries, but also in many European countries.

Professor Naira Lutunyan added, in turn, that a healthy society depends on the daily activity of specialists in this field "Only then will our society be healthy and complete," she stressed.
