The Faculty of Philology at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) hosted the pupils and teachers of the high schools in Yerevan and Armenia’s provinces. As a matter of fact, all of the teachers were alumni of the ASPU.
The meeting was held in a unique format, that is, through lectures and master classes.
Dean Ashot Galstyan mentioned that even though the Faculty doesn’t have a lack of applicants, such meetings are important and anticipated for both sides; the Chairs of different professions serve as unique academic centers that are under the direction of highly recognized and reputable scholars. Let us mention that the professors and lecturers of the Faculty regularly visit schools in Yerevan and the provinces and help the learners make the right choice when it comes to their professional orientation.
“The world is constantly changing, and the requirements for teachers and teaching methods are also changing,” said Head of the Chair of Armenian Ancient and Medieval Literature and its Teaching Methods, Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan, who held a master class for teachers with regard to the way of teaching pupils about historical novels, urging the teachers to not be satisfied with textbooks and also refer to different historical sources.
Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods named after A. Gharibyan, Professor Vazgen Hambardzumyan talked about the compilation of Armenian vocabulary and lexicography and touched upon the well-known Armenian lexicographers and Armenian dictionaries, considering them the treasury and granary of the history of the people concerned. The Professor voiced hope that the new generation of Armenians will be involved in lexicography since the rich vocabulary of the Armenian language will be sufficient to compile new dictionaries consisting of up to 15 volumes.
“New generation — new approaches to academic cognition” – this is what Head of the Chair of Armenian New and Modern Literature and its Teaching Methods, Professor Suren Danielyan emphasized as he touched upon a number of sore issues, particularly the inadequate attitude towards Western Armenian — something that is lacking in the artistic thinking of teachers as well.
Ashot Galstyan also held master classes devoted to the topic “Essay as a standard requirement”, while Professor Gayane Khalatyan delivered a lecture in which she touched upon the differences in parts of speech of different values.
The master classes also featured test tasks for the learners, and they were a unique approach in the context of assessing and checking their knowledge. The professors answered the teachers’ questions of interest and assured them that these meetings will be ongoing.
