He called to follow the success stories, particularly the recent example of cooperation between the ASPU and the University of Minnesota, as a result of which an exclusive textbook was developed. This is a unique book in its form and contents in the whole country, and an extremely important one for the process of adoption of all-around inclusiveness.
“The problems may be difficult, but they can be overcome. We need to bear in mind that such accomplishments make the country and its scientific potential distinguishable. This is a positive and exemplary outcome”, stated the Rector and expressed his hope to see that those initiatives and manuals would actually be used in practice and would bring up tangible results.
The Editor of the textbook “Inclusive Education Strategy”, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Marianna Harutyunyan spoke about the creation of the textbook and emphasized that it addressed the existing challenges facing the inclusive and general education, in line with sector reforms implemented in our country.
Fifteen chapters of the textbook refer to the application of various tools and methods, which would help the pedagogue teaching a class of children with diverse educational needs to create inclusive and student-cantered environment.
In addition, there are numerous problematic issues and challenges connected with the development of social and educational skills of children with special education needs, with teachers’ education and training programmes, social and physical accommodation projects for schools, as well as in regards with parents’ expectations, approaches and ideas.
“This is an exceptional textbook in its kind, which is a step forward to support education specialists in organisation of inclusive education at pre-school centres, schools and higher educational institutions”, mentioned Marianna Harutyunyan and expressed her hope for the textbook to be practicable and to provide desired results.
Further on, the ASPU Vice- Rector for Education and Science, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan spoke about the international peer-reviewed journals in English language about “Problems of Pedagogy and Psychology” and “Armenian Journal of Special Education”, highlighting their compliance with the demands set for the science field in our days.
“New requirements and criteria continue being set for the scientific society, which allow to be recognisable for the international society. In order to meet those requirements, one should choose the option of holding dialogues with the scientific society”, mentioned the Vice-Rector and added that the two abovementioned journals had already been included into six prestigious international databases, as well as they claimed to be included in scientific databases in future.
Likewise, she expressed hope that the journals would contribute to the solution of current problems in the sphere of psychology and pedagogy, at the same time introducing the society with the local experience and familiarising with the current development in the world.
“Our mission is to support the national schools and teachers, to study current issues, offer solutions and to convey the science of pedagogy to schools”, mentioned the Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Aida Topuzyan, when speaking about the educational and methodological manual on “Media technologies at the Teaching Processes at Elementary Schools”.
Furthermore, the Professor noticed that according to the research conducted by the ASPU Laboratory of Studying Childhood Problems, the Internet increased children’s vulnerability of danger and harm by inappropriate use of personal data, open availability of harmful content, etc. According to her, in the current digitalised world teachers’ and parents’ objective should be to neutralise the hazard at the same time bringing to maximum the advantages offered by the Internet for each child.
Last but not least, Aida Topuzyan urged those present to use the potential of the key Pedagogical University, keep the elementary school at the core of attention, keeping in mind that it is at that age that the potential of future true Armenian and an Armenian citizen is formulated.
