Exhibition hall of the Faculty of Art Education named after Levon Kojoyan

The exhibition hall of the Faculty of Art Education of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) will henceforth bear the name of the  Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia, painter Levon Kojoyan.

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan believes that Kojoyan's style and elements characteristic of his art will further enrich the professional palette of students, creating a new handwriting of a personality that will open a new page in the history of the Faculty.

She thinks a learning environment is vert important, the social atmosphere where the student's individualization and qualitative development take place; it is a great attribute to the learner's success.

The rector hailed the initiative, stressing that such initiatives are indisputably connected with teaching methods, for which we are indebted to the great people who have taught at the Faculty. “Kojoyan’s paintings hanging in the hall convey the feelings of freedom, love, warmth, and soaring, which I experienced," Srbuhi Gevorgyan said.

Dean of the Faculty of Art Education Ara Hakobyan said in turn that it has become a tradition to name auditoriums after great artists who have taught at the Faculty and left their unique mark. He voiced hope that future generations of students will carry on the tradition. The humanism characteristic of Levon Kojoyan has passed on to his students and colleagues. Everyone who had an opportunity to know Levon Kojoyan will always remember his good advice," Ara Hakobyan said.

The event was attended by Suren Safaryan, President of Artists' Union of Armenia, who had the honour to know Levon Kojoyan personally. “The event brought back warm memories… He was an exceptional person, a kind, patriotic, and decent man, and it was a pleasure to communicate with him. This is a great opportunity to value the work of a great man and artist, and to honour him, so that future generations will recognize the great people."

ASPU Professor and painter Lems Nersisyan was one of Levon Kojoyan’s students. He says he has not met an artist or an educator who can be compared with Kojoyan. It is not necessary for a teacher to have titles, but whatever he/she teaches is permanent: all Kojoyan’s students have become artists. “He [Kojoyan] taught us how to teach. I am very happy to have been his student and I try to be a little like him. Kindness and humanity are very important in terms of upbringing, especially when training Fine Art specialists. And if an artist is not kind, his paintings are not looked at,” Lems Nersisyan said.
Levon Kojoyan's son Harutyun Kojoyan also welcomed the attendees and expressed his gratitude. He said in the near future they will prepare a book of paintings featuring Kojoyan's entire artistic legacy. Harutyun Kojoyan said his father had been drawing with coloured pencils before his death; he seemed to have returned to his childhood.

Let us add that the painter’s best works were exhibited at the hall during the event, and students majoring in "Fine Arts" tried to recreate the them with their own approach and style.
