KHACHATUR ABOVYAN ARMENIAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

4th of September is the MES (Ministry of Emergency Situations) holiday for emergency rescuers and on this occasion the Pedagogical University organised various events. On this event, a seminar was organised by the initiative of the professoriate and students of the Chair of First Aid, Emergencies and Civil Protection. The Head of the Chair Narine Sahakyan welcomed the participants and highlighted that the organised events were of educative, learning and practical importance. In her opinion, the training exercises would contribute to students demonstrating more knowledgeable behavior and help them develop protective skills.

Following, Lecturer Perch Karapetyan spoke about fire prevention measures, presented types of fire extinguishers, their forms of usage and importance, as well as reminded that smoke could in fact be more dangerous than fire. Likewise, he spoke about evacuation methods in different emergency situations, accurate orientation skills, and then the Associate Professor of the same Chair Anna Margaryan referred to actions to be undertaken in regards with training on prevention measures. She assured that children should be involved in prevention activities at an early age, they should be trained on prevention forms and measures in various events as a result of which it would be possible to prevent deaths considerably.

The message of the day was summarized at the ASPU main building; the Rescue Service of the MES arranged a special tactic training drill. The training drill started in accordance with the plan: there was a fire spreading and smoke hazard in one of auditoriums of the 4th floor and it was necessary to evacuate the students and the teaching staff. Besides, there were two injured with various stages of injuries.

In a short while, the Emergency Response Team on duty, the University’s First Aid Station and Security team were in the ASPU main building yard.

The training drill was conducted as planned, firefighting was made in the main building of the Pedagogical University, and with the assistance of the relevant units of the university rescue activities were made.

According to Senior Instructor of the Centre Rescue Department of Yerevan, Major Stepan Stepanyan, this kind of drills in educational institutions are very important taking into account the fact that we live in a country with a tendency to disasters.

“An action plan is foreseen and trainings drills are to be conducted as of the start of the year. Practice shows that providing them knowledge at an early age is much more effective”, mentioned Major Stepanyan in his interview to the aspu.am, and also noticed that thanks to the MES activities public is more informed on correct orientation skills in emergency situations.

Last but not least, we would like to mention that the aim of the training drill was to improve the alerting and evacuation skills in emergency situations of the ASPU staff and students, as well as to increase practical skills of people in charge of firefighting and rescue operations.
