Gevrog Devrikyan is a True Example of a Human and a Scientist

A few days ago, a conference was held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the prose writer Gevorg Devrikyan.

In his keynote address, Gevorg Devrikyan’s son Mr. Vardan Devrikyan highlighted that the conference was a unique tribute of respect to his father’s literary work and heritage; “A heavenly gift with a short delay, but much expected in time”.

Besides, he referred to the written manifestations of Gevorg Devrikyan’s flight of ideas, main directions of his rich and comprehensive heritage, multi-genres style and methods.

“As a historian writing about the past, he was looking into the future and creating perpetual values with the modern spirit”, mentioned Vardan Devrikyan and added that his father paid great attention to the study of history and the artistic presentation thereof without any superfluous parts.
The President of the Armenian Union of Writers Mr. Edward Militonyan spoke about Gevorg Devrikyan’s modest, serious and heavyweight kind as a person and as a writer, thanks to whom the best traditions of the Armenian literature continued, also as a writer, who had tried to put a new word in national Armenian literature.

“He did not hesitate even for a second when going to the front line of the Artsakh liberation war; this is an exemplary behavior of a human and a scientist”, mentioned Mr. Edward Militonyan and added that Devrikyan’s literary and public heritage had not been praised worthily yet.

Likewise, he emphasized that Gevorg Devrikyan was a person who bore the history of Armenian nation in his soul being a wonderful and much sought by the youth person, a classic and intellectual figure.

The ASPU Dean of the Faculty of Philology Mr. Ashot Galstyan in his turn, stressed out that his works educated lots of generations, his pieces were capacitive and the world of Akna was looking forward to identifying him as a linguist –creator.

In addition, during the conference reports were presented referring to the first volume of G.Devrikyan’s book “Great Armenian Figures”, the novel “Tiridat the Architect”, stories called “The Last Words” and “The Power of Belief”.

“G. Devrikyan had never worked as a pedagogue, but his works were principal particularly from the pedagogical perspective. Continuing the work of great Armenian medieval figures, he was spreading patriotic seeds in Armenian pupils and students, and those were healthy seeds that promised new fruitful gifts”, mentioned the Head of the Chair of Old and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, the RA NAS Associate Member, Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan .

The Professor also added that Gevorg Devrikyan’s prose would always be actual because the issue of national preservation, the concepts of being educated, humane, knowledgeable, and hard-working had no time restraints.

Those present as well as the reading society are assured that Gevorg Devrikyan’s novels, stories and publicist articles with their actuality would remain as the best pages of Armenian literature.

We would also like to mention that this conference organized by the joint initiative of the ASPU Faculty of Philology, Chair of Old and Medieval Armenian Literature and its Teaching Methods, the RA NAS Institute of Literature after M. Abeghyan and the Armenian Union of Writers was dedicated to the Armenian victorious battles and the centennial of establishment of the Republic of Armenia.
