In honour of France: Exhibition opens at ASPU

A number of landmarks in France, among them the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame de Paris from the Seine, Arc de Triomphe, Château de Chantilly and many others could be seen at the exhibition of the works by painter Lems Nersisyan.

The exhibition "In honour of France" conveyed viewers the breath of France and the spirit of French culture. It featured about 50 works painted between 2004 and 2015.

"France has been and remains an educational country that forms aesthetic taste and dictates its style to the world. It is also a friendly country, which throughout the history has always reached out to Armenians, never left them alone and provided opportunities for dialogue," ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan said in her opening remarks.

Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan regrets to say that in famous exhibition halls one can rarely come across the works of MartirosSaryan and Hovhannes Aivazovsky next to the works of ArshileGorky. Aelita Dolukhanyan says Lems Nersisyan is a singer of Armenian landscape and nature, whose exceptional impressionistic orientation is further reinforced by his God-given talent and hard work. “In his paintings, the painter [Lems Nersisyan] glorifies our country. Nationalism is deeply rooted in him. We should remember that the real national is not far from the universal, because nationalbecomes universal. The same is true of Lems Nersisyan’s art. He reminds me of the hero of “The Magic Brushby Gianni Rodari (achildren's author of the 20th century). He is the artist who has the magic brush in his hand,” the professor said.

Dean of the Faculty of Art Education Ara Hakobyan reminds that Armenia and France are bound by strong ties built on centuries-old friendship between the two peoples, as a result of which the Armenian culture and Armenian community were formed. He ishappy that the exhibition, which has already become traditional, depicts France in lyrical, provençal colours, which is important as apart from gratitude, it also forms spiritual and educational values.

Painter and pedagogue Lems Nersisyan says the exhibition  "In honour of France" is not his, but it belongs to the Armenian people. He says France is the first humanitarian country in the world, which, being the center of beauty, will save the world.

The professor added that France is a unique country that is able tomeasure the greatness of the Armenian culture. He has organized a unique excursion with his paintings, the purpose of which is to familiarize visitors with the sights, culture, and daily life of that country [France], bringing them closer towards art.
