Intersection of Generations: Meeting of generations at ASPU

On October 8, an event entitled "Intersection of Generations" was held at the initiative of the Chair of Preschool Pedagogy of the Faculty of Primary Education.

The event was a unique intersection that brought together different generations, including preschool children, young and senior professors of the Chair of Preschool Pedagogy and Methodology, MA students of the same Chair.

ASPU Rector, Professor Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all ASPU representatives who met ‘at the crossroads of generations,’ who are united over the same mission - to teach and educate.

The rector was proud to say that she started her professional career at the same Chair. She remembered the preschool specialists, who were able to train and educate specialists with a unique style, real devotees of the field.

"A teacher cannot work in a preschool institution if he does not have infinite love for and utmost devotion to a child and his interests. Heroes and citizens of tomorrow are formed in the preschool age", said Srbuhi Gevorgyan. She stressed the importance of the initiative within the framework of events marking the 100th anniversary of ASPU. It is not only an intersection of generations, but also an intersection of approaches and demands of the times.

Heghine Khachatryan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, congratulated the attendees on the centennial anniversary of their Alma Mater, as well as for the opportunity to meet at the intersection of generations, thank each other and reevaluate the past.

"Gods and children live in places where they are loved. The Pedagogical University is that very place," Heghine Khachatryan quoted an old saying and reaffirmed her love for and devotion to her Alma Mater.

The idea of bringing representatives of different generations together at the intersection belongs to Armine Manukyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Preschool Pedagogy and Methodology. She is proud to head a chair that has history and scientific base and is convinced that we have new ideas and methods to transfer to the scientific community.

"The teacher is not the one who teaches, but the one from whom you want to learn. We still want to learn from our teachers, to listen to them," said Armine Manukyan. She then invited representatives of different generations to the stage to discuss issues at the ‘intersection’, listen to suggestions, opinions and find solutions.

The stage turned into crossroads of professional opinions, with the participants discussing modern challenges and issues in preschool education, problematic issues revealed as a result of a survey, through the prism of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Although in many cases the generations had a clash of opinions, there agreed on some issues. It was the "crossroads" where they were united by professional solidarity and the important method of a dedicated educator: "A child loves it when he is loved."

There were many surprises during the event but the most beautiful part was the award ceremony, which was a surprise for the ASPU rector too. Srbuhi Gevorgyan awarded preschool education specialists with "Pedagogical University" commemorative medals. The ASPU Rector was also awarded with the same medal for connecting her professional path and life to the University and for her contributions to the field of preschool education and psychology.

The award ceremony was followed by a master class. Professors Alla Dallakyan, Vachagan Navasardyan, lecturers Arevik Khugeyan, Irina Ponomarenko, Marianna Amiraghyan and A. Simonyan presented new approaches, methods and exercise games for using various technologies in preschool educational institutions. Associate Professor Armine Manukyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Preschool Pedagogy and Methodology, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, advised the participants of the event, including principals of preschool educational institutions, to address all educational, scientific and methodological issues to the professional chair of the Pedagogical University - the only scientific centre in the country dealing with such issues.

The choir of the Faculty of Primary Education led Professor Vachagan Navasardyan also performed during the event. The professor said it was the debut performance of the choir, and declared Oct. 8 as the birthday of "Shogher" choir.

the youngest generation performed at the end of the event. Children of Kindergarten No 43 of Yerevan Municipality took the stage to present “The Dog and the Cat” musical performance.
