The high school (base college) of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Numerous events are being held these days to mark the jubilee event. On December 19, a large-scale exhibition featuring over 150 works by pupils and graduates of the educational institution opened at the college.
Paintings, graphics, and other examples of decorative and applied art, as well as pieces with an academic approach were put on display.
ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan confesses that she is impressed by the aesthetic taste of the young people, their ability to reflect objective reality, and the psychological resources that is expressed in the pieces of fine art.
Professor Gevorgyan added although she cannot give a professional assessment, it is obvious that the exhibited works are in no way inferior to the works of specialists. “Professional handwriting, high-level perception of classical art and colours, dialogue engagement skills, creative imagination, and specific emotional situations that were present in multi-style works. They show that the standards in the pedagogical domain, which determine the aesthetic perception of the world around us, the characteristics of the homeland, real values, and reality, were most beautifully, colorfully, and majestically reflected in the students' works," she said.
The rector suggested expanding the exhibition and giving the University staff the opportunity to enjoy the exhibits as well. She thanked the school leadership for the effective cooperation and for unifying educational processes and jointly implementing program changes. She also thanked the pupils for the warm and wonderful moments.
Dean of the Faculty of Art Education Ara Hakobyan said the exhibition was ‘beautiful and colourful.’ He did not expect to see so many quality works. Professor Hakobyan reminded that in the previous era, our schools were always filled with artistic values. He believes that even today, regardless of the changes in time, pupils should open their eyes to see the beauty and be surrounded by the art of seeing the beauty.
Ara Hakobyan added that the art teachers of the school ensure not only the artistic presence of the structure, but also the entire ceremonial appearance. He will be glad to see the talented pupils studying at their Faculty later. Also, future teachers will also visit the school to see the model exhibition.
Nairi Balabekyan, a graduate of ASPU who teaches drawing at the base college, says they have been preparing for the exhibition for a long time. It is a responsible and exciting moment that has brought together current and former pupils of the school, as well as all those who are somehow connected to the institution.
She says they have done everything with great care and dedication: 30 out of the exhibited 105 works have been painted by the graduates; the authors of the other 75 are 10th to 12th graders.
Nairi Balabekyan hailed the great contribution of Naira Safaryan, the former principal of the school, ASPU Vice-Rector for Academic Processes to the establishment of the educational institution and for laying solid foundations. The united team of the school continues to implement various ideas with great enthusiasm.
She considered the presence of representatives at the exhibition to be binding and added that they are ready to hear professional opinions and recommendations regarding the exhibited works.
Nairi Balabekyan voiced hope that by choosing art or pedagogy in the future gifted young people will achieve great success in both areas.
