The wonderful colours of nature and the warming rays of the sun made a group of professors of the Faculty of Art Education come together in Aghavnadzor (Vayots Dzor Province) for a plein air event.
The plein air held in a lively and creative atmosphere was a unique masterclass, and the paintings created during the event will find their place in different exhibition halls of the University.
For two days, the lecturers of the Faculty painted in a calm and relaxing atmosphere, then they discussed the newly-created canvases, agreeing or disagreeing with their colleagues. As a result of discussions and some corrections, all the works received approval.
Ara Hakobyan, Dean of the Faculty of Art Education and organizer of the unique creative event, believes that such events help maintain a healthy atmosphere in the Faculty and Chairs. They also stimulate creativity of artists who carry out pedagogical activity in an academic environment, which is especially very important in case of professors working with students on a daily basis.
In the past, plein air painting was also an important component of internships and it was usually organized at the University’s Aghavnadzor-based educational center. The lecturers we talked to still emphasize the importance of outdoor painting. The University is likely to organize similar plein air events with the participation of students as well. Painting in nature, rather than in studio, helps understand nature in natural light, which is of particular importance for artists.
Ara Hakobyan says more plein airs with the participation of professors are planned in the near future. He also thanked the University leadership for giving them the opportunity to paint outdoors.
