March dedicated to the great victory achieved 80 years ago…

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the students and professors of the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), led by Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan, joined the traditional march dedicated to May 9th.

First, the ASPU representatives laid a wreath at the monument eternalizing the heroes of the Artsakh war located in the premises of the University, after which they headed towards “Victory” Park where they laid a wreath near the Eternal Flame and, bowing their heads, respected the memory of the deceased with a moment of silence.

May 9th is the day of victory over Fascism in the Great Patriotic War, the day of establishment of the Defense Army of Artsakh, and it was marked by the liberation of Shushi in 1992.

Touching upon the participation of the sons of the Armenian nation in the Great Patriotic War, Dean of the ASPU Faculty of History and Social Science Edgar Hovhannisyan stated that even though the Armenian people were small in number and had small resource at the time, they had their weighty role in the great victory. He added that the Armenian people proved once again that they build security, not exhaust it, and that the Armenian people have been participating in architecting security throughout their entire history.

The historian regrets to note that even after the Second World War when Fascism was crushed, in the 21st century, when mankind is positioned as more civilized, we see ideas and slogans about human rights on one side, and genocidal actions, ethnic cleansing, destruction of cultural values and xenophobia on the other side, in different parts of the world. According to him, the most brilliant example of this is Artsakh where years ago there was ethnic cleansing, and now there is a policy of cultural genocide.

Edgar Hovhannisyan says one has to be disposed to victory in order to achieve victory, that is, one has to have clear determination, an ideology and a mechanism to achieve victory; otherwise, this will be something that seems to be at a distance. “Victory is not just on the battlefield; it is the final outcome. There have to be victories in science, economy, culture and industry, and this will lead to the anticipated victory,” he added.

Touching upon the role that the representatives of the Armenian State Pedagogical University play in this, the historian notes that the fight of future teachers is in schools, and the result of victory and the overall victory is educating a generation of quality and aware people who are educated and armed with knowledge.
