Meeting with the Members of the Writers Union

On the 85th anniversary of establishment of the Writers’ Union of Armenia a meeting of the was organized by the ASPU Faculty of Philology between its lecturers and students and the members of the Writers Union.

During the meeting held at the auditorium named after Hrant Matevosyan, writer, public speaker, translator Razmik Davoyan, prose writer, playwright Norayr Adalyan, literary critic Petros Demirchyan, poetess Susanna Harutyunyan, poet, the ASPU graduate, Rev. Tovma Andreasyan shared interesting memories and episodes about their student years and period of membership to the Writers Union during the meeting held at the auditorium named after Hrant Matevosyan.

The guests were greeted by the Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ashot Galstyan, afterwards the Associate Member of the RA NAS, the ASPU Professor, the WUA member Aelita Dolukhanyan spoke about the cooperation between the RA Writers Union and the Pedagogical University, highlighting the series of meetings between the members of the Writers Union of Armenia and the “Literary Paper” Club, the editorial team and the future philologists.

“Hrant Matevosyan and Razmik Davoyan studied in this auditorium; Susanna Harutyunyan delivered lectures in this auditorium. Today the auditorium is named after the prominent writer Hrant Matevosyan. During the student years, Paruyr Sevak, Hovhannes Shiraz, Hamo Sahyan, Vahagn Davtyan, and Silva Kaputikyan were among our regular guests. I am proud to be among writers and to read their works”, mentioned Professor Dolukhanyan and added that the Writers Union had been dear to him still from the student years.

The meeting continued with reports; the Head of the Chair of Armenian Language and its Teaching Methods, Professor Vazgen Hambardzumyan referred to certain words found in G. Narekatsi’s pieces, which were transferred to his perfect language from the medieval or pre-medieval Armenian, while the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Literary Critic Nira Khachatryan introduced writer Razmik Davoyan as a poet and an individual and expressed his admiration of the creative heritage of the multi-genre author.

“Razmik Davoyan appeared on the literary intersection of the old and new generations of modern literature and was successfully praised with the appraisals by the formers as a blessing and became the continuer and the enricher of poetry”.

The WUA Secretary Petros Demirchyan communicated with students still when he was teaching at the University after Hrachya Acharyan. He has been the WUA member since 1972. And when writing the dissertation on Intra he had always been in touch with the Lecturers of the Faculty of Philology, and in 1985 when intellectual freedom was still not freed from the bonds of time, he presented a report at the conference on the 70th anniversary of Intra.
“Continuation is what is important”, said the literary critic, recalling from the expanse of 85 years’ that there had been time, when amusing content had also been published in the “Literary Paper”, but this had also been wonderful period.

Likewise, poet Razmik Davoyan happily remembered his student years, when with the support of academician Ashot Abrahamyan, who had been Acharyan’s student, studied in the library of Hrachya Acharyan’s house.

“I had amazing student years; the only thing that was affecting us was conceptual pressure”, confessed the poet and advised the students to fight against the hazards the Armenian language was facing.

Professor Aelita Dolukhanyan shared Razmik Davoyan’s concerns on “the fortune of our small country with big heritage”, as well as stated that “our students patriots as in this era of marketing they still choose Philological Faculty”.
