Academic Council Session

The regular Academic Council session was held at the Pedagogical University. As usual, the ASPU Chancellor Rouben Mirzakhanyan congratulates those who celebrate their

 anniversaries this month, among whom were professors Nerses Mkrtchyan, Hrachya Ashoughyan and Rafik Nahapetyan
 
“I have received almost all titles in the sphere of culture, but it is a great honour for me to deserve the honorary diplomas of one of the oldest universities in the country that is like a pedagogical forging,” the director, honorary art worker Hrachya Ashougyan said. 
 
Rafik Nahapetyan, who worked in the sphere of education around five years, mentioned in his turn that the Pedagogical had become a seat of honour and responsibility.
 
Further on, the Chairman of the Student Council Nersik Margaryan introduced the Academic Council the report on the activities of the SC implemented until October 2013.
 
Vigorous discussions took place about the presented material; the members of the Academic Council asked the SC Chairman about the students social issues, the Student Council projects funding, the cooperation with the Armenian Youth Foundation and other problems.
 
Moreover, the members of the Academic Council suggested that the following report also included information about the students’ comprehensive activities as well as the upcoming programmes. 
 

The Chancellor of the University Rouben Mirzakhanyan observed that he was glad about the work of the Student Council Chairman and stated that an apparent progress could be observed. He also highlighted that more attention should be given to the students’ social problems, emphasis on the postgraduate students employment issues, the absence of candidates’ thesis in foreign languages, and in Russian, in particular, students’ stratification, involving passive students into student programmes, isolation of student leaders, or incorrect selection; by the Chancellor’s assessment- these issues must be under the permanent attention of the Student Council.     
 
Furthermore, the Academic Council discussed other current issues. The Vice Chancellor submitted five academic topics which were approved by the Council members, and the Vice Chancellor Ara Yeremyan reported on the preparatory stage for the statutes of the structural units, while the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics referred to the review of the curricula for the Informatics course.
 
In addition, the members of the Academic Council approved the students scholarships; as such – the fourth-year student of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, English language Department Hripsimei Mkrtchyan was proposed for the Bayron scholarship, the postgraduate student with the specialization in Physics Anoush Mkrtchyan from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics was proposed for the Victor Hambardzumyan Scholarship, and the Anania Shirakatsi Scholarship was proposed to the Mathematics sophomore Pirouza Mkhitaryan.
