The exceptional international conference “Theoretical and Practical Problems of Development of Transforming Society /philosophical and psychological perspectives/”, organized


 within the framework of events on the 90th anniversary of the Pedagogical University establishment, continued its work in various sections on 17 April.
 
 
The 4th section in the sphere of psychology proceeded with its work on the subject of “Social Problems of a Transforming Society”. 
 
 
The activities of the section 4 were headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Sociology of Education, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, the Head of the YSU Department of Applied Psychology, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Gayane Shahverdyan, Chancellor of the “Urartu” University, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Professor Sedrak Sedrakyan, the Head of the Department of Psychology of the Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University, Doctor of Psychological Sciences Asya Berberyan, and the Head of the ASPU Department of Theory and History of Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Mels Mkrtumyan. 
 
 
The initial report of the day was presented by the Associate Professor of the Department of Development and Applied Psychology Vahan Sargsyan. The subject of his report was “Psychological Problems of Intercultural Pedagogic Education and the Learners’ Practice of Competencies Development”. It described the necessity of finding psychological ways to resist the educational challenges of the cognitive-informational world of the 21st century, the necessity of combining the qualitative and quantitative approaches in psychological research, and need of psychological investigation of social procedures.
 
 
After that, the Co-Head of the section, the Head of the YSU Department of Applied Psychology, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Gayane Shahverdyan delivered her report on the subject “Interiorized Cannibalism”. The core of the report was the concept of “globalization” adapted especially during the recent twenty years.
 
 
The reporter made an interesting remark that globalization passed from the person’s subconscious level to the conscious without a leader, without getting involved in the latter’s group and without ideological grounds, thus, making the person the bearer of the mass-culture.
 
 

In a short while, the Head of the ASPU Department of Theory and History of Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and Sociology of Education, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Mels Mkrtumyan, and the Lecturer of the ASPU Department of Development and Applied Psychology of the Faculty of Psychology and Sociology of Education, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Lilit Mkrtumyan presented their report on the following subject, “Transforming Society as the Environment of Social Anxiety and its Social-Psychological Impact on People”. This report discussed the problems of a transforming society and its social-psychological, economic impact on people’s lives. Besides, the psychological mechanisms of changes of behaviour and value guidelines were also covered in the report.
 
 
In the 4th section, another report was made by the Dean of the ASPU Faculty of Psychology and Sociology of Education, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Srbouhi Gevorgyan, the Head of the ASPU Department of Theory and History of Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Mels Mkrtumyan, the Professor of the ASPU Department of Development and Applied Psychology, Doctor of Philological Sciences Konstantin Danielyan, the Associate Professor of the YSU Department of Theory and History of Psychology Seyran Amiryan and others.
 
 
The section 5 operated its activities on the subject of “Transforming Society and Problems of Applied Psychology”.
 
 
The Associate Professor of the YSMU after Mkhitar Heratsi, Doctor, MD Armen Soghomonyan presented his report headed as “Psychiatric Service on a Transition Stage”.


The latter touched upon the influence of economic complications on vulnerable groups of people and people with mental disorders in countries on the transition stage, including Armenia.  
 
 
More than that, considerable interest was focused on the report headed “Various Manifestations of Auto-destructive Addictions as Characteristic Feature of Transforming Societies” presented by the Director of the ASPU Research Center, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor, Suicidologist Kamo Vardanyan.
 
 
In his report he presented the psychological specifications of auto-destructive cases in the RA AF from 2000-2005, basing on the facts available at the RA Military Prosecutor’s Office and the Garrisons’ Military Prosecutor’s Offices. 
 
 
Additionally, reports were also made by the Dean of the ASPU Faculty of Primary Education, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of Psychology Heghine Khachatryan, by the Head of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Haroutyun Babayan, the Head of the YSU Department of General Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Hrant Avanesyan and others.
 
 
 In both sections the reports were accompanied by vigorous discussions in forms of questions and answers.
