Today, an unprecedented lecture headed as “Recognition of the Genocide or Pursuing Justice” was delivered by the prominent social figure, publicist, philanthropist, publisher and editor of the “California Courier” Harout Sasunyan at the Armenian State Pedagogical University.
During the lecture he spoke about the Armenian Genocide, its recognition, about the lost lands and compensation of damages.
Besides, the speaker referred to the destiny of Armenians who spread all over the world, mentioning that the dream of generations of those who survived the Genocide to return to their motherlands did not come true and they remained on the road of exile forever.
“The Recognition of the Armenian Genocide and even neglecting it must not ease or fail its discussions at international courts. In fact, we must pursue our historic rights in legal ways, through European international courts,” he emphasized.
After the end of the lecture students and lecturers asked several questions to Harout Sasunyan.
While speaking about Armenian-Turkish protocols, he noticed the following, “In my opinion, they are rather deleterious for the interests of the Armenian Nation and our claims. I have done everything to disaffirm these protocols, and today I may say that we are blessed that Turkey did not ratify them and due to the latter our interests were protected.”
And on the question, whether we do not endanger the RA national security by confronting to these protocols, the speaker mentioned, “Right on the contrary, by objecting to those protocols, we protect the security of Armenia. I am for establishing some relationship with Turkey, but I am against the formulations existing in the given protocols. Besides, I think by a beneficial protocol for us, diplomatic relations should be established between Armenia and Turkey, as a result of which the frontiers will open.”
In response to the question, whether both Armenia and the Diaspora are effectively working to solve the problem of the

Armenian Genocide, Sasunyan said, “Still there are considerable lapses, and a closer collaboration may be required as a result of which a judicial process may commence.”
By the way, what Haroutyun Sasunyan suggests is forming a Diaspora parliament consisting of 350 members and coordinating the Diaspora activities.
As a Syrian-Armenian, Harout Sasunyan also assessed current situation on Turkish-Syrian relations. He does not consider the Turkish attack on Syria realistic and observes it as a “frightening step”. According to the speaker, Turkey is not projecting war as it realizes the seriousness of consequences. “Turkey wants to achieve its aim by frightening and pressing, and not by announcing war.”
