New grads receive diplomas

A joyously festive mood reigned at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) on July 9; about 1,600 BA and MA students, all graduates of the 2023-2024 academic year, received graduation certificates.

When receiving the diplomas from the educational institution bearing the name of the great Armenian Enlightener (Grigor Lusavorich) the new ASPU generation once again pledged to adhere to the oath and join the great army whose first teacher was Mesrop Mashtots (the creator of the Armenian alphabet).

ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated the graduates and wished them a good journey [in the new chapter of life]. In her speech, she voiced hope that the BA students will continue their studies at the University enrolling master's programs while the MA students will successfully use their abilities and skills in their professional community – starting from preschool institutions to schools, and from social/community centers to the field of art.

“Thanks to you, the teaching community is enriched with leading specialists, and the big and warm family of the University - with qualified graduates. The University does not say goodbye to you, on the contrary, we welcome you as the cooperation will continue in all aspects of education,” the rector said. She advised the graduates to demonstrate the knowledge, potential and skills that they acquired at ASPU to full extent and with honour.

The graduates were also congratulated by Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia and Chairman of the ASPU Scientific Board. She handed over diplomas to the 11 MA students who graduated with honours. The minister addressed the graduates as her colleagues and assured them that the successes and achievements of each of them will benefit the state and children.

"Today we have the opportunity to say good-bye to you and at the same time welcome you, appreciate you and wish you success. You do not have ordinary qualifications; your qualifications imply compassion, consistency, care and it is a life's work. Sometimes that work is scary, but you need to understand that the result of your work can cheer up or discourage [people], encourage or dishearten them. First of all, this is a great responsibility, and I am sure that the knowledge and skills provided by the University will help you take the right direction in any difficult situation and be guided by the right values. The rest will come with experience, continuous learning and self-education, and this is where you will further strengthen the connection with the University as partners," the minister said.

She stressed that the day is also important for the Ministry as they are welcoming new specialists and young people. She assured them that they are ready to host today's graduates in schools, kindergartens, and other institutions, fulfilling the Government's aspirations to revalue and reevaluate the teaching profession. "I am sure that you will make our children's education more qualitative. Don't be afraid to dream, make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. You are already specialists, and we have something to learn from you,” the minister said.

The graduates were then congratulated by Araksya Svajyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia, who also handed over diplomas to the 10 BA students who graduated with honours. She wished the graduates a bright, interesting and fruitful journey [in life] assuring them that there is a great need for them in the field. "We are looking forward to new and young professionals,” the official said.

Let us add that there was a festive mood in all the ten faculties of the University. Deans, chairmen of the final examination committees and famous alumni of ASPU were handing over diplomas to the graduates of the 2023-2024 academic year.
