Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia Lana Karlova and Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), Associate Professor, Erasmus+ Higher Education Reforms Expert Tigran Mikayelyan were on a visit to Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Karlova and Mikayelyan participated in the “Universities’ third mission: Partnering for social and economic development” international seminar organized by the Support to Higher Education Reforms Experts organization and the National Erasmus+ Office in Uzbekistan.

The aim of the seminar was to explore the way universities address the needs of society, their contributions to the local ecosystems and assess the extent to which those contributions are tailored to specific contexts.

The seminar also provided an opportunity to re-establish the already existing relations with the partners from 25 countries and establish new ties.

Let us mention that the universities’ third mission involves enhancing their contribution to society by fostering business, research, lifelong education, as well as innovative projects such as smart cities and sustainable technologies.

During the seminar, the experts presented to the participants the strategies and tools to maximize the so-called ‘third mission’ of universities, with topics such as teaching and learning innovation, digitalization, outreach and the ensuring of lifelong learning.

The participants also explored various case studies, as well as success stories that may be exemplary to implement or adopt as a whole or partially in the participating universities.
