By the decision of the ASPU Academic Council, ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan awarded the "Pedagogical University" medals to architect Semyon Barseghyan and Gagik Karapetyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Dance Pedagogy and its Teaching Methods.
Congratulating Gagik Karapetyan on his 70th birthday the ASPU rector said, “You are one of the greatest choreographers of Armenian dance and a famous pedagogue.”
He expressed hope that the famous choreographer’s tangible pedagogical merit will have its manifestations in the Armenian culture in the person of future choreographers - graduates of the University.
On behalf of the Academic Council, as well as lecturers and students of the University, Ruben Mirzakhanyan thanked architect Semyon Barseghyan for the interesting solution and architectural style of the monument dedicated to the memory of the students killed in the Second Artsakh War. The monument stands in the yard of the Pedagogical University.
“The khachkar is unique. Thanks to you, we had a memorial in Yerevan sanctifying and perpetuating the names of our martyrs. It is directly related to the tragedy of the recent war and perpetuates the memory of our young martyrs. Many of them entered university and did not even have time to study as they had to join the army,” the rector said.
He says many things change and are forgotten over the years, but the monument created by Semyon Barseghyan will keep the boys’ memory alive for years to come.
