On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of poet Zahrat, students of the Faculty of Philology at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) paid a visit to the Writers' Union of Armenia at the invitation of President of the Union Eduard Militonyan.
The future philologists visited the Union under the direction of Head of the ASPU Chair of Armenian New and Modern Literature and its Teaching Methods, Director of “Spyurk” Scientific-Educational Centre Suren Danielyan.
Professor Suren Danielyan expressed gratitude to Eduard Militonyan for engaging in dialogue with the students, recalled his meetings with Zahrat in the former Constantinople and in Yerevan and emphasized that he had also had the opportunity to host the poet at the Armenian State Pedagogical University.
The literary critic gladly noticed that the students loved Zahrat. “He is the poet who allows students to go from daily thoughts to seeing the road leading to inner philosophy,” he said.
According to President of the Writers’ Union of Armenia Eduard Militonyan, Zahrat’s poems help educate the soul and show people the grace of word, humanism and in-depth experiences. Militonyan recalled that Zahrat’s poems were introduced in Armenia in the late 1960s thanks to the zeal of Aleksandr Topchyan, and even today, they still educate people. The President of the Union also talked about his meetings with Zahrat and analyzed some of the poems of the author.
Literary critic Davit Gasparyan, who was attending the event, highly appreciated the “100 Poems” anthology of poems that Suren Danielyan compiled in cooperation with the Yerevan Office of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Society and the preface written by Danielyan. The speaker noted that he is also exploring the poems of Zahrat and considers him one of the best poets.
Associate Professor of the ASPU Chair of Armenian New and Modern Literature and its Teaching Methods, researcher of “Spyurk” Scientific-Educational Centre Knarik Abrahamyan touched upon how Zahrat outlines the path from being a small person to collectiveness.
During the meeting, the 4th-5th year students of the Faculty of Philology impressively recited the poems of Zahrat in Western Armenian, while 2nd year student Zhanna Hovhannisyan performed a song based on the poem “Kaghandi Tsar M’e” by Zahrat and composed by Berge Turabian.
At the end of the ceremony, poet Gohar Galstyan and poet, translator Hermine Navasardyan talked about Zahrat’s literature and read some of their works that they had written with the inspiration of Zahrat.
