The presentation of a manual headed “Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology of Visual Organs” took place at the ASPU.
The authors of the manual compiled for pedagogical universities are Candidate of Pedagogy Hakob Grigoryan and Doctor of Pedagogy Robert Azaryan, Doctor of Medicine Alexander Malayan and Candidate of Medicine Yelena Malayan.
The academic manual presents the anatomic and physiological peculiarities of visual organs, provides detailed description of characteristic symptoms of those organs, pathological patterns, the course of various disease, the outcome, corrective activities and prevention.
This manual is offered to students of Special Education Faculties of pedagogical universities, for lecturers teaching this subject, teachers of special schools and a wide scope of reading public.
The presentation of the academic manual was also marked with the donation of books to the library of the University. Professor Alexander Malayan donated to the ASPU Scientific Library around 300 books including professional dictionaries, encyclopedias, other informative books and literature. The Director of the Library Tigran Petrosyants once again highlighted the importance of such a desire and initiative to enrich libraries, and as a sign of gratitude granted an acknowledgment note to the professor.
One of the authors Hakob Grigoryan confessed that the idea of creation of the book was based on his impaired vision years ago. His visit to an Ophthalmologist contributed to his meeting with Alexander Malayan and the creation of the manual in question.
“This was the first experience, when ophthalmology and typhlo-pedagogy are jointly presented in a book. This manual, which was compiled during 2 years, consists of 8 chapters each of which is concluded with a self-testing questionnaire”, noted Mr. Hakob Grigoryan and added that the manual would be available not only at the University Library, but electronically too.
Professor Robert Azaryan in his turn shared his happiness to see that a book about prevention of vision impairment is published as the issue of shortsightedness is increasing worldwide. According to him specialists need to seriously treat those issues and thus be able to share the information with readers and future specialists.
“Donating a book is a family tradition for us. Although time dictates its achievements, I am still sad to notice that the importance of books is gradually decreasing. When you are holding a book, turning the pages, touching the intellect of humanity”, mentioned the co-author of the book, Professor Malayan hoping for it to be useful for future pedagogues.
Last but not least, the Professor spoke about the significance of preservation of Armenian Language, confessing that although his school and higher education were not offered in Armenian, he has been teaching only in Armenian since 1971.
