Pushkin's poems staged at ASPU

The premiere performance of the play "Я памятник себе воздвиг нерукотворный" has been held at Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU). The event was dedicated to Russia Day (celebrated annually on June 12) and the 225th anniversary of famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Sergey Kopirkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia, intellectuals, lovers of Pushkin's poetry, guests and students were present at the performance directed by ASPU Professor Aida Hovhannisyan.

The performance was based on Pushkin's poetry; excerpts were selected from his literary works, which became a whole thanks to the creative imagination and professionalism of the director.

The participants were the first-year students of the Department of Directing. Three students of the Department of Russian Language had helped them throughout the process. The future directors were able to preserve and convey to the audience the emotionality and sensibility of Pushkin's poetry. The giant of Russian literature [Pushkin] was presented in a unique way by ASPU students who conveyed unforgettable feelings once again proving that even 225 years later, Pushkin's poetry is relevant and eternal.

Ambassador Kopirkin thanked the organizers of the event. He is sure that the audience got a lot of satisfaction and enjoyed the performance of the talented students and Pushkin’s wonderful poetry combined with equally pleasant music. The ambassador also thanked Director Aida Hovhannisyan and said thanks to the creative taste and talent of Ms. Hovhannisyan and people like her artists and their works live on.
“Once again, we became convinced that culture can draw people and nations closer together. We all felt that the hall and the stage were one complete organism," the Russian ambassador said and confessed that after watching the performance, he had a desire to live and work for the benefit of the two peoples [Armenians and Russians].

Professor Aida Hovhannisyan thanked the Russian Embassy in Armenia, ASPU and the students for supporting the initiative. Although the students are still in their first year of study and do not know Russian very well, today they spoke in a wonderful Pushkin language.

“Even professionals often fail to play poems. Pushkin is the conscience of the Russian people, an icon, like our Tumanyan. They have a lot in common", said Aida Hovhannisyan. She advised everyone not to forget that the Armenia and Russia are bound by strong ties built on centuries-old friendship between the two peoples.

Naira Dalyan, Head of the Chair of Russian Language, also congratulated everyone on the premiere of the play. She was glad that ASPU was celebrating Russia Day and the 225th anniversary of the giant of Russian literature, whose life and activity continue to interest generations.
