Queues in China are really endless

Acquaintance with Chinese cuisine, martial arts, tea drinking and handicraft classes were organized during the Summer School programme that started at Southwest University in Chongqing, China on June 16.

Students from Canada, Mongolia, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Germany and Armenia participated in the two-week programme. The representatives of different cultures tried to discover the peculiarities of Asian customs, dishes, lifestyle, and religions in China.

“We were prejudiced against China’s economy, politics and culture; we thought people in China don’t care about the environment and Chinese students are only busy with their studies, but it does not correspond to reality. Now we understand that there are many programmes in China that help not only preserve the nature, but also restore the parts that have been damaged by the rapid development of the economy,” said the German participants when speaking about their impressions of the Summer School.

If you ever visit Chongqing, the fourth-largest city in China, do not be surprised. You are not definitely in the jungle; simply the green spaces here are more than in Armenia. Though heavy industry is highly developed in the city, there is no shortage of trees and green spaces in Chongqing. People are guided by the principle: develop the economy without harming nature.

Don’t be surprised if in a shop you are offered beautifully packaged candy which, by the way, has a bitter taste. Chongqing cuisine is noted for its distinctive spicy and pungent flavors. Everything is spicy, but at the same time very tasty. You will have to taste the popular Chinese dishes made with animal’s internal organs, octopus and other dishes.

Later on, join the adults dancing in the streets and you will learn some dance movements from them. Don’t feel embarrassed if you are constantly in the centre of attention. There are relatively few foreigners in Chongqing. Don’t be discouraged if you are unable to cross the Yangtze River in a cable car because of the endless queues.

For the third year in a row, students of Armenian State Pedagogical University and the Southwestern University of Chongqing in China have been participating in the Summer School international programme, which enables the students of the two institutions to get acquainted with the educational system, culture and traditions of the host country and have a good time.
