Tomáš Machula, Rector of the University of South Bohemia, and Radka Závodská, Vice-Rector of the same university, are at Armenian State Pedagogical University for a three-day visit.
They came to Armenia to discuss the avenues of cooperation between the two universities in question.
The Czech guests were received by ASPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan who familiarized the guests with the faculties of the Armenian university, as well as the achievements the university has had in science and in international cooperation. The rector said that they are familiar with the structure of the University of South Bohemia and the specialties it offers and added that they are important directions for ASPU.
Professor Mirzakhanyan also spoke about ASPU's scientific achievements, in particular the inclusion of ASPU’s Wisdom periodical in Web of Science and Scopus databases, as well as the successful experience of a joint dissertation defense together with a partner university from France.
The ASPU rector added that on the sidelines of the three-day visit the sides are expected to sign a memorandum of cooperation and hold separate meetings with the Deans and Heads of Chairs to discuss issues of cooperation.
Tomáš Machula thanked his Armenian counterpart for the warm welcome and presented the University of South Bohemia emphasizing that the higher educational institution which today has more than 14,000 students was formed after the merger of two institutions - the Pedagogical and Agricultural universities.
Speaking about the areas of cooperation, the representatives of the two HEIs attached special importance to the international Summer School, as well as the exchange of students and lecturers within a range of European educational programs. Marianna Harutyunyan, Head of ASPU International Cooperation Unit, presented to the Czech guests the successful experience of cooperation within the ERASMUS programme and added that ASPU is the coordinator of Boosting Armenian Universities Internationalization Strategy & Marketing (BOOST) project.
By the decision of the ASPU Academic Council, Rector of the University of Southern Bohemia, Tomáš Machula, was awarded Honorary Doctorate by ASPU.
Tomáš Machula thanked the members of the ASPU Academic Council and said that the award was symbolic for him – the cooperation between the two universities will be established.
Once again thanking the Armenian side for the warm welcome, the rector of the University of Southern Bohemia awarded his Armenian counterpart a special commemorative medal, which the university gives to the rectors of partner universities with whom they cooperate in the field of education and science. By the way, this year the medal was awarded for the first time.
Ruben Mirzakhanyan thanked Tomáš Machula for receiving a special award by a leading educational institution in Eastern Europe. He expressed hope that the three-day visit will be effective for starting cooperation between the two universities.
The guests also visited the ASPU Museum and got acquainted with the history and important events of the University.
