"In the current academic year, we have studied and revised 35 professional education programmes (PEP), their specifications, packages of 3-4 subjects included in the curriculum of each (overall, 129 educational and methodical e-packages, including subject descriptions, weekly thematic plans, etc.). The aim was to assess compliance of PEPs with the required structural and content format and to prepare the University for the next accreditation process,” ASPU Vice-Rector for Education Naira Safaryan said during a regular meeting of the ASPU Scientific Council at on October 28.
The vice-rector says during the study of PEPs, the emphasis was placed on the compliance of education courses and their objectives with educational outcomes and outputs, labour market requirements, criteria for subject descriptions, principles and the required format. “We also focused on the methodological system of teaching based on weekly thematic divisions, their compliance with the set objectives, learning tasks, and mechanisms for assessing students' knowledge and abilities,” Naira Safaryan added enumerating the problems and gaps in the education programmes.
Considering the need to fix the gaps, in April and May, two-stage pedagogical-psychological and pedagogical-methodical training courses were organized for ASPU teaching staff, which were followed by measures to improve the quality of PEPs.
The study was carried out under instruction of ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan who stresses the importance of the process and says problems in PEPs imply serious risks.
In her speech, the rector once again emphasized the importance of the pedagogical-psychological block in the University, then referred to the results of analysis submitted after the trainings, considering them sufficient, but not satisfactory.
"Introduction, application and maintenance of information technology at ASPU continues. Regular and systematic monitoring is carried out and modern technologies and solutions that meet modern requirements are introduced," Marianna Harutyunyan, Vice-Rector for Human Resources and International Cooperation added.
Later, the vice-rector referred to the automated management in education, the ASPU auditoriums and halls equipped with computers, didactic materials, video and audio displays. She also spoke about electronic services and systems at ASPU, websites and media resources, presenting [through digital analysis] their effective activity and leading position in the university system.
The Scientific Council appointed Candidates of Pedagogical Science Marianna Amiraghyan and Tamara Matevosyan, Candidate of Psychological Science Armine Ghazaryan, and Lecturer of the Chair of Music Education Arkasya Khachatryan to the rank of Associate Professors.
The Scientific Council also approved three dissertation topics and publication of the submitted books.
According to tradition, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all those who have birthdays this month and handed over certificates to the Associate Professors.
The rector also presented the educational and cultural initiatives dedicated to the 100th anniversary of ASPU, emphasizing that they will once again show that the University plays a great role in the formation of pedagogical traditions.
