The Scientific Council of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) held its final session in the 2023-2024 academic year, with the first item on the agenda being the election of Heads of the Chair of Russian Language and its Teaching Methods, Chair of Social Studies, and Chair of Music Education.
Aelita Dolukhanyan and Gevorg Tadevosyan, Chairmen of the Committees for Humanities and Culture, presented the candidates and their scientific activities.
The Scientific Council also listened to the candidates, the program provisions proposed by them, the activities they plan to implement during their term of office, and then held a secret ballot to elect heads of the chairs.
Naira Dallyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Russian Language and its Teaching Methods will continue to head the Chair. She was the only candidate for the position. The Chair of Social Studies will be headed by Acting Head Hayk Sukiasyan, while the Chair of Music Education - by Anna Harutyunyan.
By a decision of the Scientific Council, PhD Candidate of Art Studies Syuzanna Grigoryan and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Satenik Manucharyan were awarded the title of Associate Professor.
Naira Safaryan, ASPU Vice-Rector for Academic Processes, reported on the results of the final attestation of ASPU graduates. She said 1,583 students participated in the process. They studied the compliance of bachelor’s and master's theses of 17 graduates out of 25 with the requirements of organization, preparation, implementation and evaluation of the bachelor’s and master's theses at ASPU. Also, attention was paid to the relevance of the topics, their compliance with the requirements of the National sectoral Framework (NQF) and Sectoral Qualifications Frameworks (SQF), compliance of the topic and content of the works with specialty programs, students’ ability to conduct independent research, process data and make justified conclusions, argumentation, the positive aspects of the work and weak points, the opinions of supervisors and reviewers.
Naira Safaryan proposed reviewing the procedures for organizing, implementing and evaluating bachelor and master theses, making them more up-to-date.
By another decision of the Scientific Council, the recommendations and observations of the chairmen of the committees will be discussed by the faculties and chairs, and when approving the topics of the final theses and master's theses, the relevance and methodological orientation will be taken into account, excluding repetition of the topics that are submitted every year.
Paruyr Galstyan, President of the ASPU Student Council, spoke about the activity of the structure he heads, protection of the rights and interests of students.
He said they always discuss students’ complaints and proposals, present them to the university leadership and regularly conduct surveys to identify the problems encountered by students.
Paruyr Galstyan stressed that volunteer work is greatly appreciated by the structure. In cooperation with the Rector’s Office, they carry out public works. He then presented the large-scale work done within the framework of the 30th anniversary of the structure, cooperation with a number of organizations, the annual "Best Student" awards ceremony, etc.
The president of the Scientific Council also spoke about the cooperation with international structures and military-patriotic programs implemented by the Council. "More than 350 students and young people with postsecondary education are engaged in public activities in the Student Council. This year, the structure has carried out more than 460 events," Paruyr Galstyan said in conclusion.
The Scientific Council emphasized that it is important to involve as many students as possible in the ongoing programs and events. It also attached importance to the expansion of relations with student and youth organizations outside Armenia, implementation of exchange programs and a general analysis of the issues and problems faced by students.
The Scientific Council also approved the topics for five candidate theses and two educational manuals recommended for publication – "Algae, Fungus-Like Organisms, Fungi" by Ruzanna Simonyan, an associate professor at the Chair of Biology, Chemistry and their Teaching Methods, and “Teaching Methods of Stochastic Elements” by Angela Minasyan, a lecturer at the Chair of Mathematics and its Teaching Methods.
The Scientific Council also gave the green light to introducing the disciplines "Art" and "Art and Craft" in the bachelor’s programs for the 2025-2026 academic year, changes of tuition fees in the full-time and distance-learning bachelor’s and master’s educational programs in the 2025-2026 academic year, as well as the program of implementing additional services on in the ASPU high school on a fee-for-service basis.
According to tradition, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan congratulated all those who were born in June and hand over certificates to seven associate professors.
