“Psychology is one of the youngest sciences, and, nevertheless, thanks to the literate work of a psychologist, people who believe in their strengths and know how to overcome their weakness are the ones who are happier in the world…” Dean of the Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology at the Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) Ruzan Petrosyan congratulated the students and colleagues, wishing that their knowledge, as well as sincere and kind attitude will help make life calmer, more interesting and happier.
The ASPU Faculty of Education Psychology and Sociology celebrated World Psychologists’ Day with an exhibit of books published by the professors, as well as the creative works of the students, including paintings portraying different psychological situations.
The Dean congratulated the professors and future psychologists on World Psychologists’ Day and said the following: “Psychology studies the psyche of a person, but the psychologist must bear within himself psychology as a science.”
Congratulating everyone on World Psychologists’ Day, ASPU Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan stated that psychology is a science that deals with the splendid palette in which the psyche, mental processes, mental states, the characteristics and relationships of a person, interpersonal interactions and other manifestations are manifested.
Addressing the students, the Rector listed the names of authors who ‘will dominate their minds, hearts and then professional graphology” during their years of study, and in the end, the students will be in a specific professional domain of study, while having their professional preferences and interests.
The Rector wished that the students are in harmony first with themselves and then with the social domain in which they will show their capabilities and achieve successes that will surpass the achievements of the community of psychologists at the professional level.
Professors, including Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professors Lilit Lachinyan, Marianna Avetisyan, Sona Makichyan and Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Mels Mkrtumyan delivered speeches and expressed their kind wishes on the occasion of World Psychologists’ Day. Their speeches were imbued with the love for and devotion to the profession.
“Love your profession and be useful for yourselves and our society,” said Sona Makichyan. As for Mels Mkrtumyan, he emphasized that the presence and practice of psychologists is necessary for everyone in terms of profession and application.
“It is necessary to first and foremost be a person and love the profession, and not all parts of the profession have been explored. The future is yours,” Mkrtumyan said as he addressed the students and urged them to constantly continue to grow as professionals.
Afterwards, the Rector suggested that the students provide their psychological analyses and commentaries about the exhibited paintings.
According to the Professor, the eyes portrayed in most of the paintings, symbolized the idea of “perhaps we see more than we show”. What was portrayed in the paintings was the inner essence of psychologists, that is, the inner mirror that is visible for the world to a certain extent. According to the Rector, dynamic mental states were reflected in most of the paintings, and, according to psychologists, the prevailing black, pink, gray and white colors expressed specific emotional states. Through certain capabilities in terms of the psychology of colors, the students interpreted the panic, pressure and other mental states shown in the paintings as they shared their theoretical knowledge in the practical dimension.
