Student Conference held at ASPU

A student conference entitled “Trends in Primary Education Development” kicked off at Armenian State Pedagogical University on Monday, March 20.

The participants of the annual conference initiated by the Faculty of Primary Education were welcomed by ASPU Vice-Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan, Head of the Chair of Professional Education and Applied Pedagogy, Aida Topuzyan, Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education, Heghine Khachatryan, heads of Chairs and many others.

In their speech, they stressed the importance of the annual conference and expressed hope that part of the articles would develop [in the future] and lay the basis for new scientific works in order to introduce them to the pedagogical circles and have new scientific achievements.

ASPU Vice-Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan stressed in her speech that students have ‘superlative value’ for ASPU and promoting their scientific quest is a priority for the University. She expressed hope that such conferences will contribute to the implementation of important points of the strategic plan for the Faculty development, such as improving students' capacity, knowledge, skills and performance.

After the plenary session the student conference continued in three directions – Mathematics, Mother Tongue and Psychology. The speakers presented their research and alternative approaches to primary education, as well as modern teaching techniques.

The undergraduate students included in their reports the results of the research done during volunteer activities while graduate students presented their studies on thesis topics.

The participants put forward their proposals and asked questions, presenting their arguments and assertions.

“Scientific conferences have introduced a new culture and tradition into the Faculty of Primary Education which is an important platform for students who are making their first steps in Pedagogy,” said Professor Aida Topuzyan. She advised the participating students to have their own opinions on the researched topic and, most importantly, to be able to substantiate the scientific work.

Speaking about the achievements of the conference, Vladimir Karapetyan, Head of the Chair Preschool Pedagogy and Methodology, singled out the main pluses - an opportunity for self-expression, self-development, professional growth and communication and acquisition of experience. The professor assured the participants that it (the conference) trains one’s thoughts and emotions and is a classic version for obtaining numerous qualities.

Summing of the results of the conference, Lusine Poghosyan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Primary Education and the organizer of the event, said, “The most important requirement for the conference participation was that students were to include a research component in their works. The participants felt free and were able to defend their claims at scientific levels, express their own opinions and listen to suggestions.”

She added that the number of students willing to participate in the annual conference has increased greatly as compared with the previous years. Among the speakers there were also representatives from the Faculties of Philology, Culture, Education Psychology and Sociology.
