Students have winter rest in Aghavnadzor

About 60 students of Armenian State Pedagogical University spent their winter holidays at the University's teaching and training center in Aghavnadzor. The group included six students from each Faculty which outstanding academic achievement who had participated in the defense of the country.

The group was joined by a student of the ASPU Base (High School) College who has already chosen his future profession and will soon continue is studies at ASPU.

During the five days spent in Aghavnadzor, the students participated in various seminar discussions, sporting events (Sportlanidas), met with ASPU Vice-Rector for Human Resources and International Cooperation Marianna Harutyunyan, and participated in entertainment and winter games. They learned national dances, celebrated the feast of Saint Sarkis and ate salty cookies, had an active rest, played Quest, and made new friends.

One of the seminar discussions conducted by PhD student Nersik Margaryan, a former assistant to the ASPU Rector, former chairman of the Student Council, was dedicated to values and national values, which aroused great interest among the students and was followed a heated discussion.

The next highly effective seminar on "Protection of Employee Rights in the Workplace" was conducted by President of the ASPU Trade Union Edik Gulyan.

“We chose a very important topic for the students. As many of them already work, and will soon fully enter into working relationships with employers, it is necessary for them to be well informed about their rights and to know how to protect them," Edik Gulyan said in a conversation with aspu.am.

And since trade unions are associations of workers that deal with the protection and advancement of the interests and rights of workers in the workplace, students were also introduced to the mission and functions of trade unions, international legal norms, Armenian legislation, including the Labour Code.

The analysis of the survey results conducted at the end of the seminar showed that the seminar discussion had been productive and effective, with the students learning a lot of things about workers' rights.

Aren Alaverdyan, a degree seeker at the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education, introduced the students to a sign language, taught them popular songs in a sign language. "This is a new culture and I am one of the co-founders. It helps to be more confident when communicating with people with disabilities," Aren told aspu.am.

ASPU Vice-Rector Marianna Harutyunyan met with the students within the framework of the "Winter Rest" program.

Welcoming the group, the ASPU official answered the students’ questions in a warm and friendly atmosphere. "There is one force that rules the world; it is knowledge and education. Your motivation in learning should be your own future," Marianna Harutyunyan said and added that if each of the students adds at least one stone to the strengthening and development of Armenia, we will have the best country in the world. “It is really fine, but you can make it even better,” she added.

The ASPU Vice-Rector then spoke about the image of a modern teacher, emphasizing that a teacher is no longer perceived as someone who just transfers knowledge: today a student can enhance his knowledge through the Internet as well. Marianna Harutyunyan says the teacher’s main mission should be to learn how to teach and to receive correct information from many sources.

She says a modern teacher should also be a psychologist, able to form and instill a value system, not only by words, but also by his own example and behaviour.

She advised students to pay special attention to the study of foreign languages, because in our era it is difficult to achieve success without knowing at least one foreign language.

At the end of the meeting, the vice-rector added that an interesting program entitled "The Auditorium of My Dreams" will be held in the near future, and students of all faculties will have the opportunity to present the design of their dream auditorium. The most successful one will be turned into reality; students will be able to create the classroom or classrooms of their dreams, depending on the capacity of the University.

Marianna Harutyunyan also listened to the students' concerns and suggestions and promised to consider all of them.

The students expressed their satisfaction with the program and expressed hope that more programs of the same format will be organized in the future.

"The "Winter Rest" program has been held for ten years in a row. Unlike other universities, ASPU students participate in the program free of charge," President of the ASPU Student Council Paruyr Galstyan said in a conversation with aspu.am. He added that the University has a lot of student programs.

He added that new students are involved in the program every year: the students who participated in the "Winter Vacation" program this year, will not participate in the program next year. The aim is to involve as many students in the program as possible.

At the end of the program, the students returned home with warm and positive memories, relaxed and fully ready for the educational process.
