It’s already fifteen years that the Pedagogical University has been holding the School Choir Republic Festival. This year it was a jubilee event and was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of great Komitas.
Around 10 choirs from Yerevan and various regional schools and individual performers participated in the festival. The conductors and accompaniment of the participating choirs were mainly the graduates of the Pedagogical University.
The choirs performed compositions of various composers, Komitas in particular, thus, spreading their reverence and respect on the occasion of 150th anniversary of the great Master.
“If Komitas was alive, he would be surprised and would admire this miracle; a crowded audience clearly and purely performed the Armenian songs. We are thankful to your teachers, who are devotees and heroes, as well as to your parents for bringing the children to the choirs”, mentioned the initiator of the event, the RA Honoured Art Figure Mr. Arkadi Shekunts and assured that even though it was difficult to perform Komitas’ works, but I’d like to assure that without his creative heritage Armenian music would be extremely poor.
At the end of the festival the conductors and participants received certificates.
