The Catholicos of All Armenians Hosted teachers from the Armenian Diaspora

Teachers from the Armenian Diaspora, currently participating in trainings at the Pedagogical University, were hosted by His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, accompanied by Rector Rouben Mirzakhanyan.

Rouben Mirzakhanyan expressed acknowledgements to the Catholicos of All Armenians for the reception, highlighting that spiritual enlightenment was one of significant components of educational system. The Rector was happy to also notice that the relationship between the Pedagogical University and the Mother See of Holly Etchmiadzin had solid grounds.

His Holiness conveyed his patriarchal blessings to the teachers coming to their motherland from 17 countries to participate in the trainings, and assured that being a teacher and a clergyman is not a profession, it is rather a title.

“Just like a clergyman is serving to the nation, so is an Armenian teacher unconditionally serving to the Armenian school.”

Moreover, His Holiness emphasized the attention paid by the country and national institutions towards Armenian education and upbringing, outlining that schools are one of the most important centres for the preservation of national identity.

Emphasizing the mission of Armenian schools in the nation’s life, the Catholicos of All Armenians was sorry to notice that presently Armenian education was lacking in the Diaspora. Patriarch Karekin II stated that national spirit was being conveyed through Armenian schools, where the child of the land of Armenia was being created and national holly values were being acquired together with the learning the history and great figures of the country, receiving knowledge that contributed to strengthening national identity and awareness, thus ensuring further involvement thereof into the national life.
Furthermore, His Holiness introduced the teachers from the Armenian Diaspora with the educational programmes that the Mother See had implemented and was still carrying on throughout the recent years.

He emphasized the close and effective cooperation between the Mother See of Holly Etchmiadzin and the Ministry of Education and Science and particularly outlined the direct support of the Mother See in the construction of the “Ernekyan School” in Etchmiadzin and the School after Gevorg Emin in Yerevan.

In addition, His Holiness Patriarch informed that by his own initiative, continuous training sessions for teachers coming from the Armenian Diaspora were going to be organized at the Mother See of Holly Etchmiadzin, and at the same time he noted that those sessions might partly coincide with the already ongoing training programmes organized by the RA Ministry of Education and Science.

Among those present at the training was the Director of the Centre for Christian Education under the Mother See and Coordinator of Armenian Church Youth Centers [Hayortyats Tner] Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, who presented the spiritual and educational effective work conducted at schools and youth centres.

At the end of the meeting, the teachers expressed acknowledgements to the Catholicos of All Armenians for the reception and assured that one of the forms of preservation of Armenian identity outside their motherland was the cooperation between the church and school.

Last but not least, the teachers participated at the Liturgy served in the Mother See, visited the Treasury Museum of Etchmiadzin, St.Hripsime Church and the Zvartnots Temple.
